The Orioles defeated Oshawa 5-1 behind Scott MacDonald's strong four hit, six hit complete game performance. The team's defence not only turned two double plays, but also made several high- quality plays in support of Scott. Shane Cowan, who caught a good game, was the' top batsman, knocking out two hits. The next day, the Orioles travelled north to face the Peterborough Major team. The players were now fully recovered from their Whitby disaster. As soon as the game began, everybody started to hit the ball with authority. However, the ball kept finding its way into Pe- terbrough players' gloves. Greg McMurter spotted a couple early runs, pitched tough. However, Peterborough Peterborough battled back to tie the game. The Orioles continued to hit the ball and eventual- ' ly managed to get a runner in scoring position for Richard Richard Baker. Richard drove a liner into centre for the go- ahead run and Paul Drummond Drummond added an insurance run when he drove the ball over the left fielders' head for what eventually turned out to be the winner. Greg finished up the game, stranding, runners on second and. third as Jeff Finney made the final out on a line drive to the right field line. The coaches are expecting expecting the team to do extremely extremely well, based on how well it performed against the excellent clubs in the tournament and based on the limited experience of the players. Only four of the 14 players have played rep baseball at the peewee level. The game opener on May 17 in the wet and cold, the Orioles defeated Cobourg 8- 4. The winning pitcher was Scott MacDonald. Hitting stars were Bryan Landry with three hits and three RBI's, Jason Vickery with two hits and one RBI, and Mark McCarthy with one hit and one RBI. The second game for the Legion Orioles ended in a 7- 7 tie with Erindale. Greg McMurter pitched a solid five innings only to be let down by errors and Colin Galinski polished off a fast two innings to complete a save. The hitting stars for the Orioles were: Greg McMurter with three hits; Jason Vickery had two hits and one RBI; Scott MacDonald MacDonald had three hits and two RBI's; Mark McCarthy had two RBI's; Brian Mclnnis had a hit and Paul Drummond Drummond had an RBI. The third game of the tournament was a must-win for the lads and they came through with a super defensive defensive effort, timely hitting ■ and great pitching from Scott MacDonald and Jason Vickery, who received credit for the win. The stars for the Orioles at the bat were Paul Drummond, Bryan Landry, Greg McMurter, Jason Vickery, Vickery, Scott MacDonald, Colin Galinski, Brian Mclnnes and Mark McCarthy. The victory against Streets ville put the more experienced experienced Orioles up against a powerful Brampton White, team. Brampton took quick advantage of a leaking defence defence and early wildness, knocking Bryan Landry out with five runs in the first before before a 13-5 victory against several other relievers. Orioles Orioles managed only five hits, one apiece to Drummond, MacDonald, Galinski, McCarthy and Mclnnes. Scott MacDonald was the only hitter to bring in a run. With the defeat, the Orioles Orioles went up against the Brampton Blues for consolation consolation prizes. Scott MacDonald and Greg McMurter pitched very well, but all for naught as the Brampton team came away_with a 4-2 win.
