Récent Graduate Van Belle Garden Centre at Courtice was a busy spot on Saturday as customers flocked in to extend best wishes on their 30th anniversary and pick up some of the bargains for their yearly planting needs. Unfortunately, the founder, Harry Van- Belle had put in too many hours getting ready for the event and picked up the flu bug, so was unavailable for an anniversary photo, so the co-founder, his wife, Ada and daughter Martha agreed to relax for a moment while this photo was snapped. Forest Police Getting Tough The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority, the Durham Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police Police are working together again this year to enforce Provincial' statutes in the Ganaraska Forest. There were many smiles at the Strathaven Life Care Centre recently. The event was Pet Day. Bird behavioral behavioral specialist, Beth Harrison and fellow bird owner, Paula Chopik came calling. Resident, Resident, 89-year-old Mae Blight is Paula's aunt. Beth Harrison has been working with parrots for the past 12 years. As well as doing doing seminars, she also works in conjunction with Speaking Speaking for Wildlife, an organization organization that goes to schools, teaching children about endangered endangered species of birds and other wildlife. She hopes to teach them how fragile the ecosystem is and how to help save it. Four month old Baby and nine month Harley are macaws. macaws. Mari ah is an endangered endangered Durbyon. The birds were very well mannered because because they have been hand fed. Beth gives them constant constant attention and raises them like her own kids. They make great family pets. The residents were delighted delighted in holding and petting petting the birds. Some fed them grapes, walnuts and even cookies. The birds eat human food, even meat! They love being pampered.
