Hampton Junior Public School informed me that their recycling program this year has been a big success All together they collected 50 boxes of fine paper and over 36 thousand tin cans! Congratulations on a job well done. Everyone is encouraged encouraged to recycle their cans, paper, plastics and glass and drop it in the designated designated bins at the Public Works Department on Taunton Taunton Road. The Youth Group met on Tuesday, May 28th at 7:00. They played a game of base ball at Hampton Jr. All had a good time. Wednesday's Euchre Card Party had its usual fine turn out. High score went to Clarence Bray who had 87. Second, with 85, was Mary Thompson, Ruby Cochrane had 84. Not far behind behind was Win Brown with 83 and Helen Gilroy with 81. Members of Regional Council are meeting today to lblic's put further hear the views on the. planning document document and to vote on the proposed proposed changes. Unfortunately, they lost. Better luck next time ladies. On Thursday, the 1st Hampton Guides planted some beautiful flowers around the church. They managed to get the flowers planted before the rain started. Afterward, they enjoyed enjoyed a snack inside. A special special thank-you is given to Ruby and Raymond Farrow and also to Wilma Kantor for their donation of the flowers. It was a battle against the Hampton Cowboys and the Hampton #3 baseball teams. The men played a fine game. The Hampton #3 did manage to win. M.J. Hobbs had their Track and Field Day on Friday. Friday. All the teens had a great day. Everyone is a winner when you exercise your bod. This past weekend the Cubs had a great time at camp. The #1 Hampton Cubs stayed in tents at the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area, about 20 km. northeast northeast of Peterborough. There were 180 Cubs from the West Durham District attending. attending. The boys went hiking to see the caves. They thought that they were the neatest. They also observed the Kettle Kettle Rock. It is a rock naturally naturally formed into a bowl shape. They also learned how to whittle and did some crafts with other packs. The boys were very close with nature when they found a snake. Also a very large raccoon decided decided to help himself to some food when he ransacked ransacked their campsite. Saturday evening, the rest of the Cubs joined the Hampton Cubs at their campfire. Everyone had a great time with the sing- along. Tne boys arrived safely home Sunday afternoon, definitely definitely a little tuckered out. The Sea Scouts Car Wash on Saturday was a hit. The boys got a little wet scrubbing scrubbing car after car, but when each vehicle left, it was shining. shining. Scout leader Fred Ford made some excellent holeless holeless donuts. All proceeds went to their soon to take place boat trip. The Hampton Seniors played a tough game of soccer soccer against the Salem team on Saturday. The final score was a one-all tie. Scott Hawthorne Hawthorne scored Hampton's goal. Unfortunately, the Hampton team had a serious serious injury. Ken Cameron, the son of now 'Judy Metcalfe, Metcalfe, broke his leg in three places! Ouch. The ambulance ambulance rushed the husky young man to the Oshawa General Hospital where his doctor was. Ken spent the rest of the weekend in the hospital. It looks like he will be out of commission for the rest of the season. Hope' you're feeling better real soon, Ken. Don't forget that this Saturday, Saturday, June 8th, the Hampton Hampton United Church is having- their yard and bake sale. There will also be an auction at 9 a.m. sharp. This is when people offer their time and/or services services for such things as yard work, baking or maybe a barbecue supper. Everyone is invited. There are many things happening this week at Hampton Junior. On Tuesday Tuesday the Grade Ones went to the Metro Zoo. The Junior Kindergartens went to the Exotic Cat World in Orono. Also on June 4th many students students will be taking part in an event known as Harrier. This is a cross country run which will take place at the Harmony Valley Conservation Conservation Area. On Wednesday, Mrs. Morris' and Mrs. Rowes' grade two classes will visit the Cart World. Friday is Pizza Day; Afterwards, the kids will enjoy an afternoon off, having Play Day. On Sunday there will be a Hampton Cemetery Service Service at the United Church at two in th afternoon. On June 23 there will be a joint Picnic held at the Hampton Park. Weather permitting, the service will be outside, followed by a Pot-Luck Luncheon. Afterwards, Afterwards, everyone is encouraged encouraged to stay and play some games and have a few races. I recently received some interesting information from Alan and Been (Nee Balson) Taylor. The Taylors formerly formerly of Solina, now reside in British Columbia. Their son Michael Taylor is part of a four man mountain climbing team trying to conquer Alaska's Alaska's Mt. McKinley. We are proud to say that Michael is "The Future Starts Here" From the Principal: Examinations, that dreaded word for some students, students, begin Monday, June 17 at 9:00 a.m. The examination examination schedules are posted in all rooms. This way, students students have time to plan their studies and make the best possible use of their time. Students are required to return school equipment, all texts, reference and library books by the date of the appropriate appropriate examination. On Friday, May 31, four students travelled to Bowmanville Bowmanville Museum for the launch of the Good Neighbour Neighbour Program being sponsored sponsored by the Town of Newcastle. Newcastle. Jennifer Easton, Jennifer Goodmurphy, Cori Smith, and Tanya Staples were the winners in the one of our relatives. Mt. McKinley, is known as Denali or Home of the Sun by the native people. Denali is North America's highest peak and reaches low temperatures in mid- May of 30 - 40 degrees Celsius. Celsius. The group of four B.C.ers started their climb on May 11. They hope to raise $100,000. for the Canadian Cancer Society with the help of their sponsors and T-shirt sales as well as their own personal satisfaction. The climb to the south summit is 20,320 feet. The climbers have now reached the 17,200 foot mark. They have kept in contact with the outside world by radio phone. The team's air carrier carrier makes periodic fly-overs to check on them. The rest of the climb will be the hardest. hardest. More than 50 people have died trying to reach the mountain's highest peak. We wish them much luck and pray for their safety as they continue their journey. Music Notes by Sharon Peleshok To wrap it up for the 1990-91 year, the senior band held their Annual band Banquet on May 29. The food was delicious! Those band parents really know how to cook! Thank you to Mrs. D. Nowlan and Mr. H. Hubbs for their touching speeches. Sharon Peleshok heroically attempted attempted to deliver her dad's speech on behalf of the band parents. Jill Brown and Mr. Nicholas both made farewell speeches. Jill ended her term as band president with a tear in her eye as she passed her responsibilities on to Sharon Peleshok. Mr. Nicholas, unfortunately will not be returning to Clarke High School as he has accepted accepted a new position at Co- bourg DCI East.
