(Intended for last week) Summer of 1991 seems to be ahead of itself. Luscious red strawberries were on sale on June 8 at one strawberry strawberry farm, with promise of pick your own the following week. Hayfields all over the area are stripped of their crop and round and square bales lie scattered over the field with all their nutrients intact. It is quite a change from the days when 12th of July was considered prime time to cut the hay, with a team of horses and a mower, raked in winrows, and coilea in heaps, seldom without some rain to bleach it. On Tuesday, June 4th, members of the EDHS book committee were at Dorothy's House to check pictures for possible use in a book being planned. George Hamilton school children have been exchanging exchanging letters with their comparable comparable grade in Malvern school in Scarborough and last week they went to visit them with pleasure and benefit benefit to both. A supervised writing pal arrangement is a pleasant way to improve spelling, composition and history. On Wednesday, June 5th, ' .O.T.S. Pink and white peonies were the floral decorations at Welcome United Church on Sunday June 9. Rev. Sedgwick's sermon was based on the topic "Destructive "Destructive Inner Division". The scripture lesson continued the story of David concern- ling his soothing Saul's angry angry moods. The children's talk concerned birthdays, es- lrecially the one on the tenth of June, the 66th birthday of the United Church. The sermon sermon was a serious discourse on the power of the spirit, both good and bad. The ever lovely anthem was "Let there be Peace on Earth and Let It Begin With Me". The offering was received by Clarence Nichols and Wayne Ough. The programme of summer service is now available available with the first on June 30 at Ganaraska Woods with Dr. Robert Sneyd, and on July 7 at Roland Bowman's Bowman's with Dr. Mac Freeman. For some time we have dreaded the appearance of the gypsy moth and its voracious voracious larvae because of all the wooded areas nearby. For the first time a week ago we spotted two unknown crawlers, but they were all black while we were looking for spots. But we investigated investigated the nearest tree and found every leaf on a young 8 foot oak was in tatters, but not a sign of a worm. A few feet from the oak in two directions directions were a young hard maple and a cut leaf, neither one had a leaf damaged. Several yards away four more similar were found, so we still do not know if tney are the dreaded moth's progeny progeny or. not. Igloos Should Be Placed at Aged Homes Newcastle Councillor Diane Hamre thinks Durham Durham Region should establish igloos at their homes for the aged. At last week's regional council meeting, the councillor councillor remarked that the homes produce a great deal of recyclable recyclable items. She thinks that although the igloos are designed to get people other than government government involved in reducing reducing waste, she feels the igloos igloos would be appropriate at regionally-owned facilities. "I'm asking that we be responsible responsible property owners on our own property," she said. Waste Reduction Chairman Chairman John Aker said the igloos igloos have been successful and a number of sponsors have become involved in the program. "Wo are finding that if government; does it all, it doesn't have the same effect," effect," lie said.
