B.S.P.S. Valedictory Address t ■ t ! ■v 1 l I \ ! by Greg Evans As parents and teachers always say, "Stop complaining, complaining, school days are the best times of your lives," and as the student always thinks, "If these are the best times of our lives, what do we have to look forward to?" Hello, I am Greg Evans, and I'm very happy to be your 1990-91 Valedictorian. I didn't have the slightest idea that I would be named Valedictorian, to tell you the truth, I thought I was getting getting into trouble, and you can imagine it was quite a . relief when Mr. Murray explained explained why I was called to the office. Now, going back to my elementary school days when I was in the 6th grade. I remember hearing the -Tumour that the French immersion immersion students would stay - at Ontario Street public "School until grade 9. Amd, of .çourse, I was in that French immersion class. I was angry then and 'looking back at it, I would have been even more furious if I had known all that I would have missed. For starters, I would have missed instrumental music, band and Mr. MacArthur, our music teacher. I wouldn't of had the chance to play the tuba. I know what you're thinking, "Oh, my goodness, he plays the tuba, that thing must be as big as he is." But, don't worry, it's not the first time it's been said, and I'm sure it won't be the last. I would have missed all of our concerts too and that would be really upsetting. ■ Secondly, I would have missed Mr. Brasch ... Oh, darn! Over the past 2 years I have had him for core 2 years in a row Science and home room. Actually, Mr. Brasch is a really good teacher and I have enjoyed him a lot this year. Thirdly, I would have - -missed Art with Mr. Martin • who is the only guy I know ; who can have 5 different fa- • vorite classes in one day. I ' guess he just loves us all. ; Fourthly, I would have ; • missed Family study's and . : shop. Here, is where we ; shaped our creativity into a ! project in shop or cooking in ; family study's. The worst . part is, we had to eat our creativity in family study's. ; ; Fively, I would have i. - missed Eng or core French for everybody else. ..n. ...This is the class where v ÿiiü hâve" to"be happy, where " you have to be creative and also where you have to think of the teacher as a tall, sexy . blond or she will kill you. The class with the one ; and only, Mrs. Judy Roman- ■< chuk. This teacher is the crazi- i est, weirdest, most creative "teacher I have ever met in my entire life - and that's a ;i compliment. The thing that I think v makes her class so special is that not only does she have • fun, but everybody else does ; too. After all this, I would ; have missed a lot and I haven't evem got to my favorite favorite subject yet, which is Blued. ; In our school we are ! blessed with 2 gyms, the short gym and the tall gym. v This allows us to have Ph ; ed. every day. Those of us who have ' been lucky enough to be on a ' school team have enjoyed ex- ; cellent coaching - well, most ■ of the time, anyway, visiting l other schools and participat- i ing in tournaments during [ school time, and on week- ; end. ; Mr. Ito, Mrs. Moffat and i Mr. Putnam have certainly ; given a lot of time and effort . to the Ph ed. department. [ Mr. Ito has also lost a lot of money by betting kids ' that they can't do something ! in Ph ed. We've certainly en- 1 'joyed taking advantage of 1 you, Mr. Ito. Thank you very ! much. ; . I also think we should ■ thank other teachers for ' coaching teams and Mr. Mali Mali cArthur for having Friday ; night basketball, every Fri- ,/day night. There were many special events that I wouldn't have ■ ' wanted to miss, Cupid Car- ! nival, Christmas celebra- > tions, Band concerts and \ Spirit Days, which have all !; made the year much more i enjoyable. When we went to Strat- Van Belle I Floral Shoppes ...much more than a flower store! 14 stores .WghweyNo.2 A -King St, W., | ( OthiWi •SlmcoiSt.N., mjD Oth nrt i100Dund*sSt.W., tSSt Whitby Tradmwki of Van B Wesleyville News by E. Barrowclough Section Two The Canadian Statesman, Bowman ville, July 3,1991 5 Individual Studies Students Receive Awards ford it really enriched our English literature; for example: example: Hamlet, you have that father much offended. Translation: Hamlet, you really have your old man ticked off, this time. Hey, I really have learned something this year. Tawingo was another great happening that I wouldn't nave wanted to miss. Here we learned that teachers were really human beings. Usually, they were having having just as much fun as we were. So was Mr., Putnam until a rocket came out of nowhere nowhere and sliced him on the chin. Also, just before this incident, incident, Mr. Putnam told Mr. Dunn that there are only a few hours left and he hadn't been to hospital yet. Mr. Putnam, I hate to tell you now but you should have just kept quiet. Mr. Putnam has gone through kids and gone to Tawingo for 20 straight years and he is the first teacher to be on the 10 year board twice. After all this, there are some very sad moments in our school year, such as when the war broke out in the Middle East. It was clearly affecting some of the students ana teachers. It made all of us realze that we shouldn't take our country's schools and families for granted. It also made us realize that we don't truly appre ciate something until we have to learn to live without it. Two years have passed very quickly and we have all got to know each other veiy well, and become good friends. On behalf of the students, I would not only like to thank the teachers, our Principal Mr. Murray, our Vice Principal Mrs. McKeiv- er and also our Secretaries, Mrs. Greengrass and Mrs. Smith. Also, I'd like to thank the parents for putting up with us for the past 2 years. After listing all of the things from B.S.P.S. that I might have missed, I have to agree that maybe, just maybe, maybe, school days are the best days of our lives. .""S >- Bowmanville Senior Public School held its annual celebration and presentation of awards at the Bowmanville High School auditorium on Monday, June 24th.
