"Fad, crash and pre-packaged food diets will never replace the value of knowledge gained in a classroom setting." The tragic thing is that so many people invest so much time and money in an approach to self-improvement and then don't follow through with the proper implementation. implementation. A proper and effective teaching philosophy for weight loss/control includes four components: Nutrition Education, Exercise Education, Education, Behaviour Management, Management, and Group Support. Unless a weight loss program program includes the following four components, one cannot expect to keep the weight off once the desired goal weight is achieved. L Eating Right: A nutritionally nutritionally sound eating plan based on Canada's Food Guide which contains a wide variety of everyday foods. 2. Challenges and Choices: A cognitive behavioural behavioural approach to promoting promoting positive attitudes and actions in overcoming barriers barriers to weight loss. 3. Group Support: People People who are dieting need" a support system that enables them to share successes and challenges. Ample proof exists exists that lone dieting invariably invariably results in early failure. Working together toward each one's individual goal is much more successful. 4. The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, August 7,1991 19 New Display Unveiled at Robert McLaughlin Gallery The creation of the world and of man is the subject of a new series of Saint John artist Herzel Kashetsky. The Creation - seven circular circular panels (one devoted to each day of creation) plus a related sketchbook - will be shown at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery from September 12 to October 20. The exhibition will be accompanied accompanied by a video explaining explaining the artist's work. The series came about when Kashetsky was asked to paint something on a Judaic Judaic theme for the Jewish Museum in Saint John. He looked for inspiration to the Old Testament and got no further than Genesis. Yet his depiction of the origins owes as much to science as to theology. Six months of research and work went into the project which involved the study of weather, astronomy; astronomy; geology and evolution as well as the scriptures. His first hand investigations took him to Fort Hoe to study the moon and stars, to the Reversing Falls to watch the swirling currents, to the beach to collect rocks, to the zoo and the New Brunswick Museum to sketch birds and animals and to the Saint John Market for fish. In Kashetsk/s own words "the circle was chosen as the ideal format for this theme, being symbolic itself of the universe, this planet, the perfection of creation, the eternity of God and the never-ending life cycles". The inscriptions which encircle encircle the paintings are in both Hebrew and the ele- gant English of the King James version. This show is a further demonstration of Kashet- sk/s broad ranging and serious serious concerns as an artist. His sixteen-year career has taken him through more abstract abstract and calligraphic representation representation to the realist mode of his current works. The exhibition continues until 20 October. Usually we regard regard the month of September September as the first true indicator indicator of autumn. But this year the signs of fall are already in the air so to speak. Perhaps Perhaps the lovely summer we have enjoyed since early may have spoiled us into a false sense of lanquid lethargy lethargy reminiscent of "Lotus- land" but now the advent autumn must be accepted with genuine reality. Sitting out in the evening till darkness falls, we note the circling and flitting of our Malconia bat cavorting, on his batmobile. Although his close proximity may strike terror into the distaff half of our menagerie, we fail to display any distress at his presence. After all the bat is credited with being the largest predator of the insect world devouring thousands thousands of those pestilent mosquitoes mosquitoes and assorted night insect life. Recently certain members members of our family who prefer prefer to remain anonymous sought to play a practical joke on our Malconia inmates inmates - and with considera- ■ ble success we might add. While we were gadding around near Buffalo, they set up the perfect (or almost) practical joke. Knowing from | FRANK W. On returning home, the little woman gave the interior interior of our domicile the usual cursory examination and forthwith, as they say in the Bible I think, noted the presence of our new found friend. Believing it to be the real thing, she . responded in a typical female fashion with a shrill call for assistance assistance to remove the offending offending "bird-beast" immediately if not sooner. In typical husbandly husbandly fashion, we ambled out clad only in our shorts to the rescue. We picked up a towel, doubled it and with one foot on a chair that rocked and one that didn't smothered the offending beastie in its folds (one can't be too careful you know), bats have been known to have rabies and tossed the offending varmint outside on the lawn. Usually on the occasion or two in the past, few years we've adopted this procedure it was very effective effective - the bat either flew off into the black-blue yonder or fell to the ground to fly off later. This time its reflexes for obvious reasons were much slower - in fact it fell with a rather dull flop to the ground and remained absolutely absolutely motionless. Our sparring sparring partner, having witnessed witnessed our act of heroism through an inch crack of an almost closed door emerged cautiously and together we examined the "corose de- lecte". Obviously the poor thing had succumbed to some deadly .disease or sumpen. Cautiously we rolled it over - at arms length, as they say in the legal profession. profession. True its eyes in death didn't look quite normal and instead of being rigormortes in death, it appeared to be somewhat flexible. And that hole in its tummy - obviously obviously it had been done under by Writer Sings Praise for Canada Post To the Editor: "A Compliment for the Post Office" Recently, I had to call the post office because our mail was not being delivered to our Super Box. The next day and the day after we joined our family family in unholy mirth as we recounted recounted all the details. Me- thinks they laughed much louder than we did however.
