Article Has Local Roots Dear Mr. James It was nice to see the historical historical article "Lindsay Mud is Made into Money Making Product" by Wes McGregor in last week's Statesman. It may interest your readers to know that one of the brick- makers mentioned, Fox, was born in Bowmanville. Samuel J. Fox was born in Bowmanville in 1854. His Father, Thomas R. Fox, and his uncle, Alsay Fox, came to Canada from London, England in 1831. They settled settled in this area in 1852 and opened the first brickyard in Bowmanville. Their brickyard brickyard was near where Memorial Memorial Park now sits. Samuel J. Fox was raised in Bowmanville, and attended attended school here, but in 1869 he moved with his family to Lindsay. He worked for the local newspapers in Lindsay and Newmarket before accepting accepting a partnership with his Father's brick and tile manufacturing business. Samuel J. Fox was interested interested in public affairs and held many elected positions including including Liberal M.P.P. for West Victoria. I look forward to part , two of Mr. McGregor's article, article, and hope we will be seeing seeing more historical stories in the future.
