t Highlights from Wesleyville Intended for last week Sunday morning's sunshine sunshine provided a beautiful day for all outdoor activities including Hope Township's United Church service at the home of Ian and Daphne Angus at Canton. It was a delight to see the handsome grounds of park-like enclosures enclosures surrounded by white fences and tall hedges, with lovely lawns, green in spite of lack of rain. The congregation congregation was welcomed by Lloyd Kellogg, appreciation was expressed to the Angus family and a warm welcome back to Reverend Sedgwick after his holiday. The ser- . vice followed the usual order using the outdoor pulpit and the small organ, Vlayed by Morley Bickle. The choirs anthem, "Beautiful Words, Wonderful Words" was accompanied accompanied by a recording. ..Reverend Sedgwick added ( his appreciation for the opportunity opportunity of worshipping • .once again in lovely sur- roundings. He said his holi- "day was a little different ... than usual, for much of it in- volved his brand new twin , grandsons. The sermon was based on ,, the continuation of the story of David and his fall from : grace. Nathan, the prophet's , courageous reproof to David . was done by a parable which ! showed him the depth of his . sin. The ills of mankind are not seen as a punishment by God, but the inescapable results results of breaking God's laws, today, as they were 3000 years ago. The offering was received by Rod Bebee and Lloyd Osland. The large congregation congregation lingered over the coffee hour to speak with Mr. Sedgwick, greet visitors and exchange news of the township. Next Sunday's . service will be at the home ' of Mr. and Mrs. Jo Kowal, Osaca. On Wednesday, August ; 31st, Verna Austin had plenty plenty of company while Harold ' was away. Her two daughters, daughters, Helen with her daughter daughter Laurie and her son, Jason Jason and Helen's other daughter, Dawn Marie Forsythe Forsythe with son Guy and daughter Leisa, as well as Pearl Gann, were all with Verna for the noon meal. Then she had dinner, with the Ganns in the evening to celebrate Jim Gann's birthday. birthday. Mrs. Claude La Roche of Guelph is visiting her parents parents in Port Hope, Archie and Orald Ford this week and calling on old friends of her girlhood here. Gordon Hough of Brock- ville called at E. Barrow- clough's on Saturday the 3rd of August. Gordon and his family are holidaying in the Picton area, a regular summer summer custom. Harold and Arnold Austin, Austin, Archie and Leslie Ford had a very successful fishing trip to Temagami during the week of August 29th. The mosquitoes and black flies seem to have disappeared and the foliage of the trees seemed freer to insect damage damage than last year. The purpose purpose of the trip, to catch fish, was all that could be desired, trout were plentiful. They had a bonus too, someone someone near by had some humming humming bird feeders, and they watched 8 at one time. They were their usual belligerent little selves. It's amazing how such a tiny bird can act so fierce. They get so angry they squeak, perhaps the only sound they can make. There seems to be an influx influx of white butterflies across the country. They look like the cabbage butterfly butterfly that hovered over the cabbage patch, but there are no cabrages here. Within Within a week a visit as far east as Osgoode, and a visit to Scarborough found the same numbers flying everywhere. We wonder if it is the same old kind, or a new worm to chew the green effect every one is trying to produce. The Jim Adamson family at Port Britain shores have had a wonderful summer celebration. Cousins of the Adamson family were here from Scotland and with Jim and Meryl's families, and the Scots cousins there were 25 of them altogether for three weeks. They went for a camping trip using eight vehicles to Vermont and New Hampshire, for five days. They took many side Business Directory ACCOUNTANCY WILLIAM C. HALL B. Comm.
