Way to go Darlington! Pagans Fight Back for 11-10 Win by Brad Kelly It was anything but fitting fitting that the final out of last Wednesday's Pagans game came via the strikeout. After all, Bowmanville and the Oshawa Juniors combined to put up numbers that included 25 hits, four home runs and 21 runs scored. All of that took place over just five-and-a-half innings. A curfew prevented tne teams from adding to their totals. Pagans 11 - Oshawa 10 For the statistics of pitchers pitchers Joe Rose of the Pagans and Phil Yahn of Oshawa, the curfew was a blessing. Six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the Pagans Pagans an 11-10 come-from- behind victory in Oshawa City and District Fastball League action. Coupled with their 6-4 win over Oshawa one night earlier, the Pagans are now only one game below the .500 mark at 13-14-1. Two games remain in their schedule before playoffs begin. The game provided both the best and worst of situations situations for Pagans' coach Dean Joncas. The 11 runs were the most his team had scored in a game this year. But, at the same time, they played a Pagans' pitcher, Jerry Pearson, didn't quite know what to think when coach Dean Joncas came to rescue him in the second inning of last Wednesday night's fastball game against the Oshawa Juniors. After allowing Oshawa to take a 10-5 lead, the Pagans stormed back for an 11-10 victory. terrible fundamental game. Especially on defence. "We had won three in a row before tonight and the guys had some complacency," complacency," said Joncas. "It was the same today as last night (Tuesday). They (Oshawa) had a lead, and we beat them with our last at bat." Trailing 10-5 in the bottom bottom of the fifth, the Pagans sent 10 men to the plate and cashed in six runs on 10 hits before the inning was over. It was only the second time in the game that they had a lead. In the first inning, inning, a single by Paul Passant, Passant, a double by Mark No- den and single by Pete Now- lan gave the Pagans an early early 2-0 lead. Oshawa answered with four of their own in the second second inning, the third and fourth runs the result of a two-run homer, chasing starter Jerry Pearson from the mound. Joe Rose entered the game with one out and runners runners on second and third. An infield fly for the second out kept Oshawa, from adding to their lead. Another fly ball to the outfield got Rose, and the Pagans, out of the inning. inning. But that was only the beginning. beginning. Oshawa scored a single run on a homer to lend off the third. The Pagans' answer answer was Keith Adamson, who before this month had only one home run in the past three years. His three- run shot pulled the Pagans even at 5-5. He finished the night with five RBIs. Oshawa stormed back witli three in the fourth - one of those runs a solo homer -■ and two in the fifth to take a five-run load, setting setting up the six-run inning for the Pagans. Rose, who collected tho win in relief, struck out six while allowing only seven hits. He retired Oshawa in order in tho sixth inning to finish the game. Ironically, Pearson had done tho same to open tho game. It wasn't a sign of tilings to come.
