It was a mixed pairs event for a new trophy donated for competition by Oscar and Doris Wollstein. The winners were Gord Terwillegar and his wife Anne of Oshawa with 3 wins - 43 points plus two, followed followed very closely by George and Doreen Jackson also of Oshawa. Bowmanville did very well with three teams, having having 2 game wins the best of which was the team of Lloyd Woods and Laurel DeCourcy with 49 points plus 1. It was Laurel's first tournament and she played exceedingly well adding greatly to the score. The 50-50 draw was won by Ruth McMillan of Oshawa. A refreshing snack was provided by the Trophy Donors and everyone had a great day. Thanks Doris and Oscar! I am pleased as punch to inform inform you that Hampton won with a score of 2-0. Way to go Hampton! The kids are commended on their excellent excellent playing skills and fine sportmanship they have displayed displayed through out the season. season. The Hampton Mixed Sauirts didn't lose a game all year! A beautiful trophy was bestowed upon the winning winning team. Afterwards the team enjoyed a B.B.Q. at Frank McGarretfs home. A young fellow of the village, village, Jeff Crawford, broke his leg this summer playing soccer. He has been in a cast for the last month and will be for another month or so. Jeff would like to thank the kind family, friends and neighbours for their concern while he has been laid up. He won't be breaking any speed walking records for a while. There will be a Ladies Lob Ball Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at the Solina Park. The Solina Library Library Board will be holding a Bake Sale there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can come out and support your team as well as buy a few goodies.
