Bob and his long-time artner, Lynn Johnston, got ot at the right time, starting starting with last week's win in Belleville. I had a chance to speak with Bob each morning morning before blast-off. He told me he was working a reed line on the north side of Rice Lake with a pig and jig, but wasn't sure if he had enough fish to last the whole three days. Well, if you read last week's column, you know I was picking Hector Peach to win. Hector ended up finishing second overall. He also won the Angler of the Year, plus Team of the Year awards with his partner, Peter Peter Davidson. What a great year, guys! It's just a matter of time before we see the Peachman's name- on that Classic Cup. The weather and crowds were good at this year's event. Mark Mandick, who is not only the Master of Ceremonies but owns the Master Angler Group, put on a great show. Prizes had been donated by the sponsors sponsors and given out throughout throughout the show to the spectators. spectators. The kids had a super time with GM and Shimano sponsoring a tournament for the kids, where the kids fished off of the Marina docks. Some big carp had moved into the docks. What a time they had catching and landing 20 pound carp on light tackle. I was lucky to be chosen to scrutinize for the three days. When you're scrutinizing, scrutinizing, you ride in the boat with a pro. You change pros each day. Your function is to make sure that the pros adhere adhere to the rules or report any rule violations. Scrutineers Scrutineers also net the fish and assist the pro with any requests requests he may have, but you cannot fish. All the pros were great and I had a really great time the whole three days. Let me say, though, it was very hard to sit there and just watch for that length of time. In fact, I had to go out fishing with my son after the final weigh-in just to relieve relieve the tension. Congratulations, Bubba! I know how hard you worked and the dedication it takes to be the Classic Champion. I'm looking forward forward to next year's Classic where I hope to be writing to you from the winners' circle.
