Richards It's the time of year children going into grade one or kindergarten nave been waiting for all summer. However, it is also the time of year some teenagers would rather not have come around. Tuesday, Sept. 3, was the first day of school in the Town of Newcastle and it looks like it is a bumper year for student student enrollment. The separate school board's newest school, the Mother Teresa Separate School in Courtice, opened its doors to 433 students from junior kindergarten to Grade 8 yesterday. The school, which houses 20 class- User Pay Trash Possible £0282 ■ Ontario's municipalities have voted in favor of the option of a user-pay sys- • tern for residential garbage collection. But, he doesn't want to see municipalities municipalities take the next step to a user fee for residential trash. There are also seminar rooms ana "a beautifully landscaped" However, yesterday there were some last minute details that needed to be ironed out. One of those was the school's bell system. "At the end of recess, I went out into the yard and waved the students back into the school," said Mr. Armstrong. Armstrong. "But the children are great about it." Yesterday the school opened up to take separate school students from the Oshawa Townline Road east to Green Road and all points in between lying south of Nash Road. There are also students from the subdivision north of Nash Road, adjacent adjacent to Townline Road who are attending attending the school, the principal said. The Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland Northumberland and Newcastle Separate School Board will officially be welcoming welcoming this newest school into its fold in mid to late October 1991, added Mr. Armstrong. The separate school board reports that projected enrollment is up 4.6 per cent for elementary grades. The projected projected enrollment for secondary schools is up 14.5 per cent. The school board anticipates that enrollment will increase during September, September, since not all the students are in attendance on opening day, said the board's supervisor of communications, Nancy Sharpe. The separate school board operates 31 schools, six of which are in the Town of Newcastle. The projected enrollment enrollment for the entire separate school board (including Peterborough, Northumberland, Northumberland, Newcastle ana Victoria County) is just under 11,000. The Northumberland and Newcastle Newcastle public school board estimates that there will be 21,780 students going to school for the first time or returning in its schools, said Communications Officer, Officer, Pauline Janitch. The public school board will not have final enrollment statistics until the end of this month. However, the school board has projected projected an increase of 20 per cent during during a five-year span between 1990 and 1995 at the elementary levels. The public school board has also predicted a three per cent growth in the secondary grades over the next four years, said Ms Janitch. The public school board serves not only the Town of Newcastle but also Northumberland County. NEWCASTLE CUSTOM BUILT ON AN ACRE Loaded with extras. Ensuite bath has Ja- cuzi and skylight.
