The groups challenged Hydro Chairman Marc Elie- sen's recent claim that new programmes will make Ontario Ontario one of the world's leaders leaders in energy efficiency. "This is plainly not the case," said David Kraft of Greenpeace. "Hydro remains, committed to Both nuclear and hydroelectric projects, while efficiency and conservation conservation take a back seat." Last week Greenpeace released released an analysis of Hydro's Hydro's demand management programmes. "Hydro clearly has a major role to play in energy conservation. But these programmes have to be dramatically upgraded," said Kraft. The Coalition also criticized criticized the provincial government government for failing to take the lead by producing a new energy energy policy. "We have been waiting now for months to see the promised new energy energy policy," said David Martin Martin of NEP. The environmental hearings, hearings, reviewing Ontario Hydro's Hydro's 25 year demand supply plan, heard testimony from Ontario Hydro on demand management policies last week. The Coalition of Environmental Environmental groups begins its cross-examination of Ontario Ontario Hydro witnesses today. On Wednesday, August 28, the Durham East 4-H Horse Club gathered at the home of their leaders, Doug and Mary Ruth Moore, for their 1991 Achievement Day. The Moore's and Shelley Shelley Delaney, the third leader of the club, had an evening of fun and activity planned for the members as they competed in their first ever "Horseless Gymkhana". For this event, each member member had to design and produce produce their own "horse" which they would use to compete in the evening's events. After many raids on broom closets, toy boxes and sock drawers, the members were ready for the big event. The horses included an Arabian Arabian costume horse, a Thoroughbred Thoroughbred (complete with authentic authentic racing saddle), an Open Jumper (sporting four "white socks"), the Black Stallion, and a team of draught horses whose team-' sters wore authentic Amish costumes. Also present were several horses of indistinguishable, indistinguishable, yet regal, ances try including a horse with the longest lashes and reddest reddest lips in history. Club members and their horses them became very busy as they competed in sucn events as: Pole Bending, Bending, Pick-up Rescue Race, Blind Horse Relay and an Obstacle Course complete with cross-country jumps and a water hazard. Ribbons and prizes were awarded in each class and by the end of the evening, the members had each accumulated a good supply of premiums. As another successful year of the 4-H Horse Club activities draws to a close, the members and their leaders leaders would like to thank the Durham Farmers' Co-op for their sponsorship of our club. Also, a large thank-you is extended to the parents for their encouragement and support.
