Brunswick. The chances of the Clarke High School senior boys' team equalling their silver medal performance of two years ago are good. In fact, the team may even be able to top that. A gold, medal is a strong possibility. As a tune-up to October's Canadian Classic, the team won the Madoc Invitational Tournament without their best players in the lineup. "This team is very comparable comparable to the one of two years ago," said coach Lowry Lowry as his team was preparing for a Kawartha league game last week. "We have better depth on this team, though. "We won the Madoc tour nament without our setter and power hitter, so that is a good indication that we will be strong." The tournament will include include 20 teams, divided into different classes. Based on their strong performance of two years ago, Clarke has been placed in the gold division. division. It's regarded as the strongest of all the divisions. As in past years at Clarke, this team is strong. The lineup lineup of grade 10-13 students includes includes four players who play for the regional team. Their top player, Dustin Reid, is a member of Ontario's provincial provincial team. So, there was little doubt in Lowery's mind to make a return trip to the east coast. "Some of the players arc considering Dalhousic as a choice to go to in the future," said Lowry. "You seem to get treated differently down there than here. Darlington N.G.S. Merchants Slow Pitch Team would like to thank the following sponsors for a successful year in 1991. "When Ontario Universities Universities host a tournament, ^" , """ they're very snotty in their approach. Down there, they make you feel welcome and at home; "It also gives them some exposure to eastern Canadian culture." Last year, they were the bronze medalists at the OFS- SA Championships. This team is capable of that type of season again. "I think we'll be there," predicted Lowry. "We are certainly one of the contending contending teams." The trek to Dalhousie for the Canadian Classic hasn't come without its price, however, however, in terms of flight and accommodation.s. In fact, some of the hardest work the team has done in preparing for the trip hasn't been entirely entirely on the court. They have been fundraising fundraising to help reduce the cost, and have been able to raise all of the money. Their biggest event was the food booth they operated at the Orono Fair. "The fund-raising is a lot of work, and that's why we don't go down every year. It would become a commonplace commonplace trip," said Lowry. A gold medal this time around may change his way of thinking. Senior Division -- Our senior senior total is now 20, with nine girls and 11 boys and we will start our teams next week.
