Muriel and Henry Henry Wottcn have returned from a two-week motor trip to Toulon, Toulon, Manitoba to visit Muriel's uncle and aunt, Ernie and Alison Alison McLean. A highlight of the trip was a visit to Reg and Blanche Tully's modem dairy farm and milking parlour near Marquette. Then a drive through the farm land to Portage Portage la Prairie for supper where Henry and Muriel celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. anniversary. Congratulations! Henry and and Muriel travelled to Thompson, Manitoba taking her uncle and aunt to visit the Taylor family, Muriel's cousin and Alison's daughter. While there Lyle Taylor took them on a tour of the Inco Nickel open- pit mining operations. Marie and Cecil Gibson returned returned home from a three week bus tour of the cast coast - both Canadian provinces and American American states. They visited all four Maritime provinces. The highlights of the trip for Ccc and Marie was visiting their grandson Boyd Vandcrheul at St. Johns, Newfoundland for a couple of days. Blackstock United Church Board met this week. Reverend Dale Davis confirmed that Ron and Kris Klusmcicr will be coming for our church anniversary anniversary weekend November 2 and 3. On September 27 there will be a mini bazaar and euchre at the Latchman Center, Port Perry sponsored by the Port Perry Hospital Auxiliary. The bazaar opens at 12 p.m. with the euchre beginning at 1 p.m. If possible try to support this event next Friday afternoon. Sunny Weather Prevails for Bethesda Decoration Service Tyrone News by Jacqueline Vaneyk Decoration Day Service Sept. 22nd, at Bethesda Cemetery Cemetery was well attended. The weather was beautiful and the grounds were lovely. The Salvation Salvation Army Band provided all the music for the service. Rev. Bonnie Kelly conducted the service, basing her message on ."And there was no more sea." The new section of the cemetery cemetery was dedicated as part of the service. Coffee and cold drinks were provided by the Cemetery Board, and many people lingered to visit. Orono Fair was also " fa voured with good weather. Several people from the area took part, including Denny Pcnwardcn who did well with his radio controlled vehicle. Oshawa Presbytery held their September meeting in our church on Tues., Sept. 17. Our UCW supplied refreshments for a good crowed. Sunday School began on Sept. 15, under the leadership of Bessie Vaneyk, superintendent. superintendent. All children arc welcome to come. It is held at the same time as church, so that everyone everyone joins in the opening of the service at 11:15. Toastmasters. I guess everyone was well rested after their holiday break. The September 17th meeting meeting was sparked by efforts from Toastmaster Nancy Barnes, who kept the business portion of the meeting lively. During the one minute impromptu impromptu session, which we call Table Topics, Toastmaster Wanda Huntingdon filled her minute best, presenting both a super opening and closing as well as good material in between. between. Toastmaster Huntingdon Huntingdon also won the trophy for Best Speaker of the evening with a technical presentation in the field of rehabilitation, which she will be presenting at her workplace. Runner up for the speaking award was Toastmaster Toastmaster Bruce Neopole, with a humourous speech about ' the 'woes' of business travel, and the myriad of stumbling blocks one encounters at various venues venues throughout the world. Toastmasters always evaluate evaluate one another, not only to point out flaws and weaknesses in presentations, but to point out positive attributes as well. The Toastmaster giving the best evaluation this time was Toastmaster Irene Konzel- mann, with her evaluation of Toastmaster Huntingdon's presentation skills. At September 24th's meeting, meeting, the local Toastmasters will be competing for the best presentation presentation of a Tall Tale as well as holding a competition for impromptu speaking for two minutes. A report on the winners of these two competitions will be published in next week's report. report. On Oct. 1st the Club will hold a Humourous Speech Contest, The general public is invited to attend. Winners of all competitions will go on to compete at an area level on Oct. 8th in Lindsay, and those winners will compete at the Eastern Division competition on October 22nd, being hosted right here in Bowmanvillc.
