Cooper Earl Greenlee Burley 111 nine years, Earl Greenlee Burley, died in Oshawa General General Hospital, on Sunday, August 25,1991, on his 66th birthday. Bom and educated in Kendal, Kendal, he was the son of Mrs. Eva Burley, and the late Percy Burley. Burley. He was married January 14,1949 to Ruth Gordon. A resident of Oshawa, where he was employed by General Motors 31 years, retiring retiring 10 years ago, he had previously previously resided in Kendal. Surviving are his wife Ruth, daughters Sharon Gordon, and Barbara Osmond, five grandchildren, grandchildren, his mother, Eva Burley, Burley, a sister Joyce Bird, nieces, nephews and great nieces. The Reverend Clifford Evans officiated at the funeral services held at the Morris Funeral Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville, on Wednesday. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William C. Lane, he was married married December 14, 1929, to Jennie M. Platford. A fomter resident at 28 Riv- erwood Pkwy. Etobicoke, Mr. Lane worked at many Ontario Branches of the C.I.B.C. for 46 years. He retired 26 years ago as manager of Owen Sound branch where they continued to live until late 1985 when they moved to Etobicoke. During his employment with the bank he was a member of numerous service organizations 'and official official boards in which he held various office titles. He also was a 61 year member of the Masonic lodge. He was a dedicated dedicated and a very community minded person. He was a member member of the United Church, Owen Sound. Bom in Hampton, he was the son of Albin and Aggie Clemens, and was educated at Hampton Public and Bowmanvillc Bowmanvillc High Schools. He was married December 19, 1936, to Edith M. Pascoe. An employee of General Motors, he has also farmed. For over 60 years he had sung in the Hampton United Church choir. A dedicated member of the church, he served on the Session, as a church steward and as a Sunday School superintendent. superintendent. Nestleton Presbyterian 146th Anniversary Service On a beautiful Autumn morning, September 29, 1991, the 146th anniversary of Ncs- tleton Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. was well attended. Reverend Wm. Fairley was the minister and Joyce Taylor played the familiar old hymns. The Seniors Club Choir of Port Perry rendered two beautiful beautiful musical numbers "We Shall Behold Him" and "Grant Us Peace" accompanied by Edna Beckett. The Sunday School in charge of Dorothy Lee, also had a few additional children from Ballyduff families and two daughters and their husbands husbands and families of Reverend Reverend and Mrs. Fairley. Reverend Fairley spoke on the many memories the members members have of the past 146 years; and how we look to the church for support, guidance and direction in all phases of our lives. Flowers in the sanctuary were in memory of Richard Davison and Arnold Taylor. . A pot luck luncheon followed followed the service held in the unday School room. OBITUARY I E. Louise Hancock I An employee of J. Ander- I son Smith Co., Newcastle, for I 35 years, E. Louise Hancock, aged 74, died at Mamwood House, Bowmanville, on Saturday, Saturday, September 14, 1991. She had been in poor health three and a half years. The daughter of Herbert E. and Lottie (Couch) Hancock, she was bom in Clarke Township Township and educated in Newcastle Public and High Schools. She had resided in Newcastle Newcastle at Beaver and Edward Street for 65 years, previously residing in Clarke Township. A member of Newcastle United Church, she had sung in the choir and had also been employed as a housekeeper and during WWII worked at the Shell Filling Plant, Ajax, retiring 11 years ago. Surviving are her brother Lloyd G. Hancock of Bowmanville, Bowmanville, three nephews and one niece. She was predeceased predeceased by her brother the Reverend Reverend T.E. Hancock. Funeral services were held at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, Bowmanvillc on Tuesday, Tuesday, with the Reverend N.E. Schamerhorn officiating. Rd., had a very interesting tour of Marilyn Wallace's Art Studio Studio on Scugog Island. Marilyn showed us step-by-step how she fashions her beautiful, innovative innovative scarves. Her silks arc purchased in China. She worked quickly and skillfully, in coloring a scarf in attractive, harmonizing shades, and the result was incredible! What an ambitious program Marilyn has with plenty of energy and enthusiasm! After this learning experience, we enjoyed Russian Russian Tea and tasty cookies. Our warmest thanks to Marilyn for a pleasant afternoon. To wind down a good day we had dinner at Haugen's Restaurant before reluming to home base. Sorry, Edda Bowman Bowman was unable to attend. Friend Christina Henderson, has now returned home to bon- nie Scotland, and we'll miss her very much. However, she will be back again soon we trust, and our best wishes go along with her! U.C.W. Sunday at Nestleton United Church With a good attendance, the U.C.W. Sunday, 1991 was held at Nestleton United Church with president Arlene Malcolm and vice president Karen Yel- lowlecs conducting the service, with Gwen Malcolm at the organ. organ. Carol Mairs led the children's children's theme with a fine story, much to the enjoyment of the small fry. Rebecca Helsdon, the soloist, sang "Raining in the Inside" accompanying her self on the piano. Scripture from Luke 8: 1-4 was read by Bernice Mairs. The message "Stories of Journey" was taken by Arlene Malcolm and Karen Yellow- lees with assistance from several several readers of the U.C.W. Marion Hall, Neta Fish, Kathy Tromans, Kay Notman, and the hymn "Women of the Bible" was sung. Karen closed the service with "Prayer for the Journey". Offering was received by Ina Davis and Carol Hill. Flowers were placed in the church sanctuary by the U.C.W. in memory of a fine U.C.W. worker, Leona Sadler who passed away in October of 1990. The famous Dutch trumpeters first toured with Dutch-Canadian organist Willem van Suijdam in 1990.
