Orono resident, Bill Tomlinson Tomlinson is running for election to the position of Ward Three local councillor. Mr. Tomlinson lists landfill landfill sites and the impact of Highway 407 on the future of the community as two of his major concerns. He also notes that rezoning rezoning proposals which "pit neighbour against neighbour" are another major challenge. "There's got to be a better way of handling it," he says. Mr. Tomlinson believes that there is a lack of some services in Ward Three, especially especially sanitary sewers in Orono Orono and sports facilities in several several parts of the ward. Mr. Tomlinson is working towards towards extension of sewer services services to Orono through serving serving on a committee lobbying for the improved services. In addition, he believes that the town could benefit by cooperative cooperative arrangements in which it worked with groups who own existing sports facilities facilities to improve upon them. One of these is the conversion of areas of the town currently served by Ontario Hydro to a municipally-owned municipally-owned hydro system. He believes this move would lower the town's hydro rates. Mr. Tomlinson also says that whatever arrangements are made to upgrade local transit should include routes which would benefit the eastern eastern areas of the Town of Newcastle. He says the provincial provincial government's promise to improve transportation between between Peterborough and Toronto Toronto can benefit his ward if the transit routes include stops within Ward Three.
