' hi v . ft « \ x ' -ti Santa brought parade or ganizers the gift of perfect t weather and massive crowds ^ on Saturday. XX And, as a result, the 30th annual Community of Bowman Bowman ville Santa Claus Parade was a big success. Exact crowd estimates are difficult to achieve. However, the entire route was lined with spectators. And that means somewhere between 7,000 and 10,000 people watched the procession which lasted for over one hour. This year, there were approximately approximately 70 entries, including including 11 marching bands. The customary prizes were i awarded to nine entries and H the following is a list of win ners for 1991. In the senior float category, category, first place went to the entry entry entitled "Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves." It was the work of the Purple Hill Orange Lodge #399. Runners-up were "Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang," by the Bowmanville Drama Workshop Workshop and "Happy Anniversary Anniversary from Frosty and Crystal," Crystal," an entry of the Bowmanville Kinsmen. In the junior float contest, the Ontario St. School won first prize for its farmyard float. Runners up were: "Santa's "Santa's Favorite Float: The Banana Banana Split," by S.T. Worden School and "Anniversary Cake" by the Bowmanville Pathfinders. Prizes for parade fillers were as follows: The Forget family's entry entitled "We"re Off to See the Wizard" Wizard" was given first prize. Runners up included: "Home for Christmas," by the Bowmanville Bowmanville Business Improvement Improvement Area and "Leo the Lion," the entry of the Royal Bank. "We were very, very pleased," said Ede Cole, a member of the parade committee, committee, when she described the 30th anniversary edition of the Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade. The organizers had not only perfect weather, but also some unexpected last-minute, entries which added to the event. Three of the Bowmanville Zoo's elephants were a late entry to the parade. But they delighted children of all ages along the route. This year's parade was made possible through the sponsorship of 49 community-minded community-minded businesses and through the hundreds of spectators spectators who purchased Santa buttons. Volunteers from St. John Ambulance were on hand to ensure that first aid services were available to the participants if needed.
