WHTTBY Maple Grove UCW Plans Programs for November Fourteen UCW members met at 8:00 p.m. on November ' 21 in the C.E. Hall. Pres. Dorothy Dorothy McIntyre opened with a reading "Build Yourself A Dream", which encouraged us to set out goals and work towards towards them. We repeated the Purpose and Lord's Prayer. The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved. approved. The church Nursery has been painted, a new carpet has been installed and drapes arc being made. We are asking for any donations of a playpen as well as stuffed toys, reading and colouring books. UCW members are asked to submit any recipes for the new United Church cookbook to Kathy Makxam within the next few weeks. Kathy Makxam reported on the Regional meeting held at St. Mark's United in Whitby on October 29. Reverend Arch McCurdy acted as moderator and brought with him two guest speakers representing the Jewish and Muslim faiths. It was an excellent opportunity to learn more about different beliefs beliefs and customs. Various correspondence was read and the treasurer's report report given. Members were reminded that December's meeting is a Pot-Luck Supper with the Women's Institute on December December 9 at 6:30 p.m. Each lady is being asked to bring a gift for the Church kitchen such as a paring knife, ladle, pot holder, pie server, or a hot pad.. The Offering and Birthday Box were taken and dedicated with prayer. Marjorie Brooks opened the Worship Service with a very moving poem about an elderly lady telling a young boy why we wear a Poppy each year about how the tradition of two minutes' silence, started in 1919 on November 11 to observe observe Armistice Day. Marg Down read "The Story of the Peace Crane," a remembrance story from Japan about a young girl dying from leukemia leukemia after the Hiroshima disaster disaster who made paper cranes to fly and carry the message of peace on their wings. We then joined to sing "Ô God of Love, O King of Peace." The program theme for the evening was Stewardship. Marjorie Marjorie Brooks read the scripture from Matthew 5:13-16. Marg Down read an article from the Mandate Magazine outlining the good works of John Wesley Wesley who died 200 years ago. He forged many paths for improvement improvement of the poor and the status of women. Marjorie then told us that Stewardship means not only giving money but time and talent as well, and she outlined various projects UCWs get involved in. After we sang "Jesus, United by Thy Grace." Kathy Makxam read an article about UCWs all across Canada who do indeed dedicate their time, talent and money to the church's mission. Several members then read a skit called "The Common Heart" about a very dedicated group of church women, Kathy closed the program by reading a Creed "We arc not alone, we live in God's world." The Mizpah Benediction was repeated and we gathered in the kitchen for a delicious assortment of sandwiches. Press Sect.
