4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, Wednesday, December 4,1991 Section Two What r s Happening, Rock Star Brings "Funkified" Act to Oshawa MPP Speaks to Local PCs by Lorraine Manfredo Eddy Moon will be entertaining entertaining nightclub patrons at the Purple Onion in Oshawa tonight tonight with what critics have described described as the group's special brand of "funkified rock." The five members of the folk-rock band will be performing performing songs from their recently recently released 'Thirst' album. Ed Bohlkcn is the self- taught lead guitarist, writer and singer for the Eddy Moon band. Much of the material that appears on the 'Thirst' album, Mr. Bohlken wrote while louring louring Europe. The resulting songs exhibit some of the raw edge that Bohlkcn encountered in the West German music scene. "In Europe, it's a much more hard-core scene," the musician musician said in a telephone interview interview last week. "The music there is more to the point. It's not so flowery." Sifting out the flowery excesses excesses from rhythm and lyrics arc a natural instinct for Eddy Bohlkcn. He manages to home in on the bare essence of people's people's emotions. "I will write about some of the hardest emotions to deal with, such as love, fear of being being alone, and frustration," Mr. Bohlkcn said. Lyrics from his 'Thirst' album album are bold, passionate and to the point: "I'm talking about blowin' it up.... Letting it go... Throwing it all away." Although he often succeeds Popular Duo Spreads Christmas Spirit Hundreds of students from 11 schools around the Town enjoyed a Christmas Concert held at the Bowmanville Recreational Complex last week featuring popular popular children's musicians Rick and Judy. The singing duo strummed lots of seasonal seasonal songs using a banjo, a couple of guitars, and an unusual stringed instmment called a dulcimer. Just minutes into their show, the pair had children singing along at the tops of their voices, clapping their hands, stomping their feet and having a jolly time. The concerts were held on November 27 and 28.
