4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, Wednesday, December 11,1991 Section Two What's Happening Thoughtful Donations Made to Obstetrics Dept. Speaker Stresses Optimistic Views Canadians would do well to consider their opportunities opportunities rather than focusing on their problems. "We, as Canadians, have a tendency to focus on problems problems rather than solutions," said Joe Christl. Mr. Christl was the guest speaker at last month's meeting meeting of the Bowmanvillc Men's Canadian Club. The guest speaker, who is a farmer and also general sales manager for a farm equipment manufacturer, believes believes that businesses should focus on solutions to problems problems and adjust their attitudes in order to improve their chances for success. He believes that attitude is important for all business people, whether they arc owners, managers, or employees. employees. As a sales person, Mr. Christl visits many Ontario firms and has first-hand knowledge about how they conduct their business. He believes there's room for improvement improvement in many cases. For example, the way a receptionist receptionist answers the telephone telephone can be crucial to a company's image. Docs the person answering the phone make the customer feel good about calling that company? In his navels, Mr. Christl has found that Europeans and Americans arc both a little more successful in dealing with their clients. For example, example, when he visits a restaurant restaurant in Europe, the waitress will ask if a bowl of soup is to his taste. Such courtesy is not as likely to be encoun tered in Canada. Nevertheless, Mr. Christl believes that great opportunities opportunities exist for those who are solution-oriented and who want to solve problems. "Opportunities are here if we arc the kind of people who will look toward progress," said Mr. Christl. "I think we should say: Look, this is a good place to live. It's got opportunity Let's forget the problems and let's get on with it." Joe Christl, in addition to serving as general sales manager manager in Canada and the eastern eastern USA for Geringhoff, a manufacturer of farm equipment, equipment, operates a farm with his son in Courticc.
