The Week in Review, OSHAWA--General Motors guards, salaried staff and workers were hit with two different types of news last week. Guards and salaried staff will hot be receiving their annual $500 Christmas bonus this year. Oshawa workers were not the only GM employees to have their bonuses cancelled. GM cancelled a $500 bonus for all its salaried staff in Oshawa and throughout North America in November. The move will save the company about $50 million. The second group hit with unpleasant news consisted of the workers at GM's two car plants. They will face a seven-day layoff immediately after the Christmas holidays. The layoff will affect 7,500 staff who work on the Chevrolet Luminas and Buick Régals. They were originally scheduled to return to work on Jan 2. *** PORT PERRY--The Township of Scugog has been given a capital grant of $30,333 to be used to build three new baseball diamonds, reports the Port Perry Star. The money, which is to be delivered in two payments, was the result of an application made at the beginning of the Ontario government's fiscal year. The money represents the one-third portion to be paid by the government. The other portions of the proposed $90,000 price tag on the facilities to be built will be paid by the municipality and the Port Perry Minor Baseball Association. It is predicted that the construction of the three new diamonds will meet needs of the community for the next five to eight years. The construction of the new diamonds is the first phase of a long-term project to improve recreational facilities in Scugog Centre. *** OSHAWA--A, 44-year-old Oshawa woman has been charged with two counts of Attempt Murder by the Durham Regional Police.
