I had no problem in finding things to write about. There seemed to be a lot of community spirit. Especially from the younger people, I'm proud to report. On Monday, February 10th, the Beavers held their Fourth Annual Valentine Tea. The Beavers greeted and seated grandparents and seniors from the area. That evening the C.E. Wing was decorated with the Valentine theme. The master of ceremonies was Scoutcr Doug Browning. The Beavers provided the entertainment by singing three songs. A thank- you to the Beaver parents who helped prepare the refreshments. refreshments. The Hampton Girl Guides were able to work on their Hostess Badge by serving. serving. Wednesday's Euchre Card Parly was it's usual busy self. Ruth Gay took first place with a score of 89. Doreen Ferguson was second with 87 surprisingly. surprisingly. She, also won the Most Lone Hands with seven. Not far behind with 82 was Clarence Clarence Bray. Tied for fourth were Ruby Smith and Daisy Haynes with scores of 80. The Most Honest Player of the night was Harold Swain. No one won the Special. Draw winners were Evelyn Gulley, Marg Hall, Betty Kuyer, Gerta Masters and Verna Robinson. The Hampton Guides have spent the last few Thursday evenings working towards their First Aid Badge. The Guides broke themselves up into four groups. Guider Elizabeth Elizabeth Bateman is a Registered Nurse. The girls learned rescue rescue breathing on their dolls. Often these techniques arc needed on younger siblings. Other leaders assisted in teaching teaching the Guides fire safety, putting putting together first aid kits and how to treat cuts and burns. On Friday, February 14th numerous kids and their lead ers joined the thousand spectators spectators in greeting Brian and Mila Mulroncy at the Newcastle Town Hall. The prime minister spoke of Canadian Unity. Also of the continual need for volunteers. volunteers. Afterwards, despite the heavy security, the Mulron- cys mingled. Elizabeth Bateman Bateman informed that she was honored by shaking Mila's hand. The Youth Group met for a night of bowling on Saturday, Feb. 15th. Dave Davidson had the highest score of the two games bowled at the Northern Lancs. Afterwards the teens filled their hearty appetites at Burger King. Also Saturday evening, was a Valentines Dance at the Hampton Community Center. Love was in the air as the many couples danced the night away. Rob and Cathlccn Luke won a prize for their Spot Dance. Mr. and Mrs. Shahmu- rat also won an appropriate Valentines Day door prize. : For every bad turn, I'd like to think there is a good turn. At least this was the case for resident resident Mona Adcock. It seems her purse was stolen from the Newcastle Recreation Complex. Complex. Upon finding some of the missing items near the Eldad United Church, folks responded responded by raking the area. Many more personal items were recovered. recovered. Again, many thanks. I don't normally give you detailed information about Sunday morning services from the Hampton United Church. However, this past Sunday, February 16th was a special one. It was the Hampton Guide and Scout Church Parade, celebrating celebrating Canada's 125th Birthday! Birthday! The theme, "Thé Spirit of Being Canadian". Everyone received received a Canadian pin. The paraders were greeted by Beaver Jeremy Bilenduke, Brownie Ashley Broome, Cub Matthew Hester and Guide Carrie Ovenden. The ushers were Sea Scouts Mark Pokor- ski and Mark Goff. The receiving receiving of flags took place. Barb Pokorski led the introduction with the singing of "0 Canada". Canada". Guide Leader Elizabeth Bateman welcomed everyone. It was then the choral call to worship with the singing of "0 Lord Come Be Here". Guide Melissa Allin led the opening prayer of "The World Around Us". The opening hymn was This Land is Your Land". The reading of "Canada is Good!" was done by Scout Stephen Goff and Cubs Chris Allin, Matthew Brock, Wade Harris and Peter Jannsen. It was then time for the dedication dedication of the Christian Flag. The 1989 Ventures, which has disbanded, were proud to donate donate a non-denominational Christian Flag to the Church. The Guides led the anthem of "They All Call it Canada". Brownie Kerra Gardiner gave the prayer "For The Place We Live". Song sheet #5 gave the words to "My Paddles Keen and Bright" and "Land of the Silver Birch". Beavers Jesse Gilbert and Darryle Spencer repeated repeated "The Lord's Prayer for Beavers". The Leaders, Rick Braills- ford, Shelley Bilenduke, Fred Ford, Jim Geddes, Pat Howard, Mary Ann Keith, Kim McClus- key, Shelda and Bruce McLeod. McLeod. Also Janet Page, Joan Rit- zic and Cheryl Waller provided the message "Our Flag -- What It Means To Us". Barb Pokorski Pokorski should be thanked for doing doing the extensive research on this piece. On February 7th, 8th and 9th the 1st Enniskillen Beaver Colony enjoyed their first winter winter Camp in Camp Samac in Oshawa. The boys were accompanied accompanied by one parent each and seven leaders. Three of our enthusiastic dads, Ron Hun- sley, Steve Milson and Blair Vaneyk generously donated their time and prepared a Bird Feeder Kit for each of the boys to assemble at camp. The boys spent a fun filled afternoon building their feeders with the help from their Mom or Dad, sledding down the ice covered hills in Beaver Meadow and an open air wiener roast. We also had a very interesting nature hike and discovered some animal animal tracks along the way. At night we enjoyed a great camp fire in the cabin with songs, stories and prayer. A wonderful wonderful time was had by all. Un Sunday, Feb. 16th the 1st Enniskillen Cubs and Beavers Beavers joined with the Sparks, Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders Pathfinders at the Enniskillen United United Church in celebration of Lord Badcn-Powcll's birthday. Year One, Stage One Scout received the Blue Badge and Seal,he is Tim Ashton. Year Two, Stage Three Scout Mark Pokorski received received a Seal. 1 know that was a lot, but thank-you for bearing with me. I feel all of these kids should be recognized. Members of the First Hampton Beaver Colony hosted a Valentine Tea at the Hampton United Church on Monday, February 10, for local seniors. Verna Robinson Robinson was among the many guests in attendance for this annual event. In addition to serving tea and cookies, with help.from the First Hampton Guides, the Beavers also performed a skit for the seniors. ★ ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Kelly spoke to us about planting planting trees, and how we should nurture and support those trees so that they will grow to be strong and tall. We should also be caring and supportive to our friends and neighbours in the community in the same way so that we can grow up in the same way in a happy, healthy, caring environment. On Monday night the Enniskillen Enniskillen Guiding Groups joined together at the Enniskillen Enniskillen School for Thinking Day Enrollment and Penny Carnival Carnival to show that we think of people all over the world. Girls all brought one canned good each and a sample of a food from another country to share with the others. Some girls- wore costumes from other countries. There was a Pathfinder Pathfinder Enrollment. All the canned goods were donated to the Salvation Army in Bowmanvillc Bowmanvillc and the pennies are being donated to the Girl Guide World Fellowship fund which helps girls and women at home and all around the world. On Tuesday, February 18th Confirmation classes and membership began at 4:00 p.m. and finished at 4.:45 p.m. All youths 12 and over and adults arc welcome to join in.
