uuuvamaii, ouwmdiivnic, YYanicsuay, may z/, Competitors Ready for 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament June 5 and 6 Only nine days remain before 35 teams tip-off in the first annual Canadian Canadian Statesman "3 on' 3" Basketball Tournament. Registrations for the two-day tournament tournament to be held at Bowmanville High School on June 5-6 closed last Wednesday. Wednesday. afternoon, but not before 140 boys and girls between the ages of 10-18 registered to take part. Not bad, considering considering that three of the area's high schools,^ Bowmanville, Courtice and Clarke, are holding their proms on the opening night of the tournament. Despite Despite that, three teams in the boys' 16- 18 age division will attend their respective respective proms on Friday night, and we have made arrangements for them to play their opening games on Saturday afternoon. On the left is the tournament logo that will appear on the front of the com memorative tank top that each participant participant will receive when they register prior to the start of their opening game. Statesman editorial cartoonist Lorraine Manfredo is to thank for the attractive design. On the back of the tank tops will be the logo of the Bowmanville Sports Shop. Plans are also in the works to include a couple of coupons from area businesses in the registration packages that everyone will receive. In addition, a free draw will be held, with three winners walking home with new basketballs compliments of Canadian Canadian Tire. And, to ensure that nobody goes home thirsty, the famous McDonald's Orange Bowl has been ordered to provide provide free refreshments for everyone. Below we have compiled a list of all of the teams entered in this year's tournament, tournament, with the starting time and op ponent in their first-game. The tournament will be interrupted for one hour on Saturday at noon for an NBA-style 3-point competition. A limited limited registration will be held on Friday evening and Saturday morning, with a $5 entry fee charged. Participants will have one minute to fire 12 shots from three different stations. The overall winner will receive a trophy donated by Hooper's Trophy Centre and a brand new basketball, again compliments of Canadian Tire. The whole tournament, some 57 games worth, will conclude at 4:30 on Saturday afternoon when the top two teams in the boys' 16-18-year-old division division take to the court in a battle for the 'A' championship.
