Town of Newcastle Economic Development Strategy Study This study, will identify opportunities to achieve a stronger economic base, providing additional employment for the town and its residents. The results of the study will include an action plan to implement the recommended marketing, community economic development initiatives initiatives and programs required to achieve a healthy and sustainable economic economic future. In addition, the strategy will provide valuable input into the Official Plan Review. The Courtlce Employment Area Secondary Plan The new Durham Regional Official Plan as approved by Durham Regional Council on June 5, 1991, designates a large area of land west of Regional Road 34 and north of Highway 401 as "Employment Area" (see key map). This designation provides the Town of Newcastle with the opportunity to develop a high profile employment centre in south Courtice. A comprehensive secondary plan is being prepared for these lands, detailing potential land uses and road patterns for the Employment Area. Open House: Information Meeting: A joint Public Information Session on the Economic Development Strategy and the Courtice Employment Area Secondary Plan Study will be held, as follows: Date: Thursday, June 25,1992 Place: Bowmanville Recreation Complex Highway 2 and Regional Road 57 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Purpose of the Information Session is to review the background analysis and to explore a proposed strategy for economic growth. In addition, development options for the Courtice Employment Area will be reviewed, Town of Newcastle Planning Staff and the consultants, Stephen Chait Consultants Ltd, and Macaulay Shioml.Howson Ltd. will present the background findings of both studies during the Public Information Meeting, with opportunity for questions and comments to follow.
