A very pleasant "Happy Birthday" party was held Thursday, June 11, in Main hall of Orono United Church. It ( was the 30th anniversary of the U.C.W. (United Church Women) and a very large crowd of friends, members members and visitors was in attendance. ■ . Guests were present from Petcrbo- 1 rough, Lindsay, Port Hope, Oshawa ; and surrounding areas. Well over one hundred enjoyed a ; delicious buffet dinner, and Mrs. Mina i Clappison gave a very meaningful ; Grace, before dinner. Following dinner, Mrs. Norma ; Long (our first president) and Mrs. Shelley Wright, (President of Oshawa Presbyterial) cut the lovely birthday : cake, all Past Presidents served the cake and ice cream to the guests. Mrs. Doreen Wood then handed out song sheets and a very rousing sing along was enjoyed, with Mrs. Joyce Gray at piano. Mrs. Betty Chatterton Chatterton rend the minutes of inaugural meeting of 1962. Norma Long then showed many interesting slides, taken ; through the 23 years she and her husband husband Basil were here in Orono. Of course this brought back many happy memories of weddings and then of ; course some sad ones of members now deceased. i Mrs. Arlyne Ayre, our guest soloist - rendered the ever beautiful solo "Trees", accompanied by Joyce Gray, i Marie Tamblyn gave an excellent : short meditation based on "Lydia", a ; famous woman of the bible. A sure hit of the evening was the humorous skit by ladies of unit #4. Judy Van Dyke ' gave a running commentary on the story of "The Surprised' Burglar," and guess who the burglar was? None oth- er than Donna Scott! The old lady of " the house, none other than Joyce Cow- r an!
