Everyone placed well and special congratulations go to Tiffany Piney (third from left) who placed first in elements and fourth in Juvenile and to Natasha Piney (fourth from left), who placed third in Ladies' Test Stream. G ruffles Atoms Undefeated • «>/> After First Seven Games by Debi McManus Newcastle Gruffies atoms are off to a sensational start in the United Counties Hockey League. As of November November 20, they are 6-1-0. Last week's action saw Newcastle • play an exciting match against Grafton, Grafton, who handed Newcastle their only loss of the season on November 3. The All Canadian Awards juveniles juveniles completed a very successful and busy week, taking five points of a possible possible six as they played three games in six days. They travelled to Uxbridge on Tuesday night and came away with an exciting 4-1 win, avenging their last- second home ice loss to this same Uxbridge Uxbridge club. This was a complete team win and the best game the dub has put together together to date. The All Canadian boys came out flying and skated to a first period 3-0 lead. Jason Rogers from Chris Dart and Kevin Farrow, Derek Anderson from Jeremy Snowden and Dustin Couch, arid Mark Peirce from Scott Selleck put the team out front. The next two periods had lots of end-to-end action, with both goaltend- ers (Sarah Couch for Bowmanville) coming up big when tested. Chris Dart from Jason Rogers and Marc Peirce made the final score 4-1. On Thursday it was Oakwood who played host to the Bowmanville squad. For the first two periods, both teams checked hard and it was the All-Canadian squad that was able to blink the goal light twice. Kevin Farrow Farrow and Chris Dart scored to make the score 2-0. Missed passes and give aw ays allowed Oakwood to tie Up the game which ended 2-2. Woodville provided the opposition at home on Sunday. Refuse to Quit by Sandra Hamilton The Halminen Homes Bantam Toros Toros played an extraordinary comeback comeback game on Saturday, November 21, against Orillia. Just as things seemed to be at their worst, the Toros fought their hardest to firiish with a win. The game started off in Bowman- ville's favour, as Eric Zuvic, assisted by Shawn Broome, scored the first goal of the game. Less than 30 seconds seconds later, Orillia scored their first goal to tie it up. The game remained 1-1 into the second period. Orillia managed another another goal, taking the lead away from the Toros. Bowmanville's Allen Lacey, assisted assisted by Jamie Shetlèr, made his way through Orillia's defence and tied the game up. As the end of period two was nearing, Orillia took back the lead. % ■' As the Toros skated back onto the ice to begin the final period, they were determined to leave with a win. Orillia attempted to break their spirit by scoring scoring what was to be their final goal. The score was now 4-2, with little time left in the game. Included in the streak were wins over Bewdley, Millbrook, Oshawa, Colbome and Grafton #1. On November 15, against Grafton #2, we ended our road trip winning 4- 1. The Toros have won their last five games. Recent scores were as follows: Toros 5, Barrie 2; Toros 5, Ajax 4; Toros 5, Markham 2. That record has propelled the team to a winning average average above .500 with a 6-4-3 record. They have gained 15 points in their standings out of a possible 26.
