8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, December 2,1992 'AAA' Midget Wolves in Bowmanville on Sunday Plenty of Medals and Ribbons For Bowmanville Skaters An opportunity to see the future stars of junior and university hockey while they are still in the developing stages of their careers is available to area residents this Sunday. The Central Ontario Wolves midget midget 'AAA' team, the highest level of hockey available under the OMHA, will be playing Kingston at 5:00 p.m at the Darlington Sports Centre. It promises to be an entertaining match-up. "It will definitely be a good game, no matter who wins," vowed the manager of the team, Paul Robinson. Robinson. If past league games between the two clubs is any indication, Sunday's Sunday's contest may well be decided by the team with the last shot on goal. Kingston won the first three encounters encounters the teams had by scores of 3-2, 4-3 and 2-1. But, in their most recent clash, Bowmanville's Chris McCarthy recorded a shutout in a 3- 0'victory. McCarthy is one of seven resi dents from the Town of Newcastle who are playing for the midget team. Others include Mike Cramm, Ryan Cresanto, • Ryan Robinson, Richard Bateman, Sean Brown and Doug Parkin. "They're all holding their own so far this year," said Robinson of the overall performance of the local players. Especially Cresanto, a defenceman. defenceman. With his 6'3", 200-pound frame, he has OHL and university scouts drooling. "They realize that they have to come to every game ready to play because of the calibre," continued Robinson. "If they aren't ready to play, they can guarantee themselves seeing limited ice time." On paper, the match-up between the two clubs shouldn't produce the close-scoring games it has thus far. Kingston sits in first place in the East Division with a 12-2-3 mark, while the Central Ontario Wolves are fourth with a 5-10 mark as of November 23. Also included in the East Divi- New '92s *Lease or *Buy sion are Oshawa, Peterborough and Quinte. The West Division is comprised of York/Simcoe, Richmond Hill, Markham, Ajax/Pickering and Whitby. Whitby. The interlocking schedule has the Wolves playing each team in their division five times. There is also a home-and-home series with each team in the West. In addition to their league schedule, schedule, the Wolves have participated in two tournaments where upwards of 20 scouts can be easily spotted amongst the spectators. Despite being being under a microscope, the Wolves have enjoyed limited success. During a 24-team tournament in Sudbury, they finished with a loss, and two ties, while in Belleville they went 1-1-1. Their lone win was a 5- 2 victory over Kingston. "We're not getting blown out," said Robinson of the team's competitive competitive games. "One of our concerns at the start of the year was how competitive we would be. Now the idea is to develop develop the players who are in their draft year, and look for other opportunities opportunities for those players who are in their final year of midget." The Wolves are hoping to bring midget 'AAA' hockey back to Bowmanville Bowmanville in January, as hosts of the East vs. West all-star game. Should negotiations for that fall through, Sunday's game could be the only opportunity of the year to see this level of hockey. SCOTTSDALE PICKUP Maroon/sllver, air, auto., cruise, V8.
