Adventist World Relief Program Looks for Help Baha'i Faith Speakers Discuss World Peace Hss?p0ff: , "Imagine waking up tomorrow and finding everything you own is gone," says Dccosta Knight, Community Services Services Director of the Bowmanvillc Seventh-Day Adventist Church. "If you can begin to imagine that you might be able to understand how Southern Florida residents felt after Hurricane Andrew stmek in late August," August," he says. Beginning this week, members of the Adventist Church will visit homes in the Bowmanvillc area as part of their Annual Appeal for World Disaster Relief and Development. Development. For the past 16 years Adventists have knocked on the doors of Bow- manville homes to raise money for Disaster Relief, Community Services, Education, and Evangelism. Seventh-Day Adventists were among the first Relief Organizations on the scene after Hurricane Andrew stmek Florida last August," says Knight, "and our toll-free number re ceived more than 7,000 calls from people offering support." Last year, Bowmanvilleites contributed contributed $3,000.00 to this campaign, according to Knight. Some of that is now being used for victims of hurricanes hurricanes in Florida, Lousiana, and Hawaii, Hawaii, as well as helping those less fortunate fortunate both overseas and right here at home. "I'm essentially a shy person," says Knight, "and it's not easy to go and knock on doors, but once I start it's not so bad. People arc usually very friendly, and that helps." He says, "we are asking you to support this Annual Campaign liberally, liberally, all of which goes to help the less fortunate both here at home as well as abroad." Both speakers emphasized that religion, religion, politics, science and education are means to achieve our. goals; yet none of them alone is enough. If religion religion causes hatred, to have no religion is better. Politics seems comiptcd, lobbyists of all forms defeats the purpose purpose of politics and sway the politicians. politicians. Science and education have made great contributions to our world, but can never create wisdom or initiate initiate moral value. Religion alone is fanaticism and science alone is destructive, destructive, they should go hand in hand. Learning the Ropes Pays Off A JCOUTS CANADA m Its Christmas! rif. Capsule Comments with Neale McLean, b.sc. Phm. We see a lot of imitation seafood around ... IL M especially crab. It is actually made from the Alaskan i/fj pollock, a deep sea whitefish. It contains, on average, 75% less cholesterol than the real thing, but still contains the high quality protein we expect from seafood. To keep warm when going out in very cold weather, avoid drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes. Alcohol dilates blood vessels causing heat loss and smoking slows down circulation through hands, feet and legs. Nitrates and nitrites are chemicals used to cure meats and give them that characteristic taste and colour. Frying these meats can convert these chemicals to "nitrosamines" which are potentially cancer-causing. Microwaving these meats is best... it produces less nitrosamines. Here's a better way to swallow a capsule: Swallow a sip of water; put capsule In mouth, take another sip of water, bend forward and swallow. It works!
