Digging Out from Worst Storm in Decades gewa in* WÿRWSHaHBli I * The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, December 16,1992 11 i^ x MOD i&fe ■>, , am i. When they ran out of places to put all the snow, these clever shovellers did what a lot of other resourceful resourceful pick-up truck owners did. They piled the load in the back of the truck. After those frosty flakes finally stopped falling on Sunday, the only snow removal equipment to be had at one local hardware store was a solitary shovel. Beaver Lumber, in Bowmanville, was all but sold out of its entire inventory inventory of nearly 50 shovels over the weekend. All but one were scooped up by snowed-in residents Friday and Saturday. Canadian Tire reported that it had only one electric snowblower left and was entirely sold-out of the gas-powered variety. It was out of shovels and road salt too. But, store staff ' assured The Statesman that the big snowfall hasn't yet led to a sell-out in seasonal seasonal recreational items. Why not make the best of the big snowfall? Canadian Tire still has plenty of sleds, skates, skis, and hockey sticks in stock. Even those big winter storm clouds have silver linings. m A warm winter coat is a "must" on days like these, but, if you don't grow one naturally, like this poor pooch, you get a pal to make you one. VAN BELLE FLOWERS Traffic might have been slow-going on the highways last Friday, but on the slopes of the Bowman- f ville ravine, it was moving at full speed. Young winter enthusiasts wasted no time heading to the top of |w the hill for a breathtaking ride down on their sleds. It wasn't easy shovelling over, a foot and a half of wet snow, but everyone bent their backs to the task early Friday morning to keep the sidewalks way clear for pedestrians. pedestrians.
