The Can: Lord Elgin Food and Toy Drive Supports Denise House The Canadian Statesman TUicfaUe*,, Bowmanville, Wednesday, December 23,1992 11 ■ * '>*- Students at Lord Elgin School in Bowmanville had a food and toy drive for Denise House this year. On Friday, Dec. 18, the bounty was to be picked up for distribution next week. Behind thé boxes of food and toys are some children from Mrs. Webb's Senior Kindergarten class. They are Rory, Laura, Matthew, Matthew, Wendy, Adam and Christina. The Changing Scene "The dust oh these, things is terrible!" terrible!" I mutter as I dust my mother's glass nativity scene. After I finish dusting them all carefully, I place them down as they really might've been, long ago on Christmas Day. The darnels, sheep, and donkeys are all crowded around Mary, Joseph, and the newly bom Baby, Jesus. As I sit there, looking at all the figures, figures, the room begins to slowly get dark, and the nativity scene gradually begins to look real. Fur replaces the glass on the animals, and skin replaces the glass on the humans. Everyone there is somehow moving as if they were real. The animals are shuffling around quietly, and Mary and Joseph are gently rocking Baby Jesus in His manger. Three wisemen are coming up a hill, towards the little stable, and according according to the Christmas story, are bringing gifts to give to Jesus. (I've always believed in the Christmas story, story, but I never thought I would see it!) I didn't realize it before, but I seem to be some kind of shepherd, caring for iny sheep. I decided to leave my sheep for a minute, and quietly walk to the star - directed stable to take a closer look. When I arrive at the stable, I slowly slowly reach down to hold Baby Jesus' hand but, suddenly all darkness is gone and is replaced with our family room light. I realize then that in my hand is a glass Baby Jesus, not His tiny hand I had been reaching for. The people and animals have all been transformed back into glass and have stopped moving. There was nothing different about the nativity scene from when they had last been glass, except for one thing. There was now a figure of a shepherd, crouched down to where Baby Jesus was laying. "Can't be..." I said to myself, not believing it. X thought maybe I imagined imagined they were real, but in my heat, I knew it wasn't my imagination. Have a wonderful time! Hamilton's Insurance Service Orono rjilet* SACRED MIRRORS from Crystal Pages THE VISIONARY ART OF ALEX GRAY - This unique series of paintings takes the viewer on a graphic, visionary journey through the physical and metaphysical anatomy of,the self. The Sacred Mirrors, presented here in full, have been exhibited worldwide. The figures are life-sized and face directly forward for a mirroring effect: standing in front of the paintings, the viewer can 'see into' himself or herself. Because the paintings are in an ideal healthy state, they can function as an aid in healing visualizations or meditations. Portraying different sexes and races, the Sacred Mirrors also ask us to see ourselves reflected in others. One can see in the human anatomy a macrocosm of the many systems and levels of order in nature. Inner Traditions International - NEW - •NEW BOOKS FOR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS Jottings by S.B.
