14 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, Wednesday, January 6,1993 Community Correspondence Lucky Winners in Christmas Draws Christmas Parties in Tyrone Area m Tyrone News by Jacqueline Vaneyk i - -- The holiday season has left us with some beautiful memories. The lights were lovely; thanks to all those who take the time and energy to put them up and take them down. There were some great family parties - including the Vaneyk gathering at the Orange Hall. Forty seven people came for pot- luck, visiting, a family quiz and some carol singing. The music is always a big part of the season. Our senior choir's anthem "The Gift of the Season" on December December 20, Tim Southwell's piano music on Christmas Eve, our wonderful little junior choir led by Jane Kocne, as well as the candlelight singing of Silent Silent Night - all were high spots. New Year's Even saw numerous house parties, as well as dances at both halls. The weather cooperated nicely for travelling. The Orange Hall has been given a thorough facelifting inside. The walls are freshly painted and the floors have been redone. Some of the beautiful old Orange Banners have been hung up, along with the picture of Sam Hughes and the lovely old deer heads. How important it is that we preserve the history of our communities! The lodges must be very proud of their work. January means the beginning of a new year for the church and lots of other groups. That translates into annual annual reports and annual meetings. Our United Church reports are to be in by January 15, either to Jacqueline Vaneyk Vaneyk or to Lois Alloway. The annual meeting is on January 24 following the service and lunch. Everyone interested interested is invited to attend. Plans are afoot to have a new furnace installed as soon as possible. The Annual Meeting for the community community centre is on Sunday, January 10 at 7 p.m. Your support is needed here. The more volunteers and the bet ter the organization, the less work there is for everyone. Speaking of volunteers, Meals o:n Wheels is running in our neighbourhood neighbourhood again. I would like to leave you with this valuable tip: In trying to figure out how to put away the Christmas lights without having them tangled, I came up with a great idea; Use metal coat hangers! Pull down on the bottom bottom part of hanger, making it into a diamond shape. Slide one end of the lights over the hook, then proceed to wrap the lights around, alternating front and behind the diamond. I used one hanger per strand. I used a colour coated hanger for the outside lights. That way, you know which is which. It took about thirty seconds to wrap each strand and are very easy to put away for next Christmas.
