Hundreds of progressive home builders, renovators and industry representatives gather at the annual Forum to examine key issues issues and trends for the home building industry in Ontario. The two day training and education event delivers programming programming with a strong technical emphasis. emphasis. The pace of change in the home building industry is quickening. Whereas it took almost 30 years for traditional interior vyet plaster finishes to give way to drywall, mechanical ventilation and insulation provisions pioneered over the past decade in the R-2000 Home are slated to be entrenched entrenched in upcoming revisions to the Ontario Building Code. In 1993, Ontario's residential construction construction industry will be working with these and other major changes to the Ontario Building Code; new health and safety requirements on building sites; expanded specifications for the leading edge Energy Efficient (R-2000) Houses; and increasing demands demands to address environmental issues issues in home building. The Forum, now in its sixth year, is a key source of up to date information information on these issues and more. It will highlight the technical advances and emerging trends that affect how the housing industry plans and builds today. today. In 20 different workshops, industry experts will discuss solutions to tech- nical problems, introduce new technologies technologies and ideas and prepare builders builders and renovators for some of the market and industry changes that are ahead. John Sewell and the Commission on Planning and Development Reform in Ontario will highlight proposals to speed up the approvals process. Other speakers will discuss fundamentals such as the basics done right, ventilation ventilation and mechanical systems, accessi bility needs and new technologies.
