J Markham Series The Bowmanville Kinsmen minor bantam Toros were eliminated from OMHA playoffs by losing games three and four to Markham. In game three, played in Darlington, Darlington, Markham again took a 2-0 lead before Matt' Brake fired in a slapshot from the blueline to make it 2-1 midway midway through the second period. The Toros threw all they had at Markham, but were unable to tie the game and were defeated 2-1. The Kinsmen will play Ajax in the next round of the York-Simcoe league playoffs. Legion Toros Oust Peterborough and Advance in Series The Canadian Legion Branch 178 Toros registered a come-from-behind 4-3 win to eliminate Peterborough and advance to the OMHA semi-finals against Markham or Orillia. The Toros moved ahead 1-0 when defenceman Mike Stacey moved in from the point and fired home a pass from J.P. Tousignant. The Petes proved to be a more determined determined adversary with their backs to the wall and they mounted a relentless checking game which had the Toros reeling in the second period. Matt Caruana led the charge to victory victory with four goals in the opener * against Uxbridge on his way to game MVP. Curtis Robinson added a single, assisted by Shane Gonsalves, to round out the Bowmanville scoring. This game was marked by the very strong play of the Bowmanville defence defence who limited the scoring opportunities opportunities of the Young Bruins. Special mention goes to Tyler Brown, Jeff Larsh, Doug Myles, Jeremy McKee, Nathan Adegeest and Colin Baker for their outstanding efforts. ■ Bowmanville then ran up against a tough Vaughan Ranger squad, but once again Matt Caruana got Bow- manvillc off to a good start. This time, it was a nice pass to Bryan Barchard who scored his first goal of the tournament tournament to put us ahead 1-0. This action was reciprocated when Ryan Evansi and Bryan Barchard assisted on- Malt's goal less than a minute later to [increase the lead. Colin Baker rounded rounded off the first period with a great in- "dividual effort to give Bowmanville a 3-0 advantage. The Optimist selects seemed to sag in the second and early stages of the third period, resulting in Vaughan scoring twice and reducing Bowman- ville's lead to one. The sensational goaltcnding of both Andrew Rahmc and Matt Beech in the second game made the difference as they held Vaughan Vaughan at bay until Matt Caruana and Jason Jason Emond scored late in the game to salt away the victory. Garrett Nemisz and Jason Hicks each assisted on the final goal on a great three-way pass play to Jason Emond who finished it off. Special congratulations to Andrew Rahmc who played outstandingly in net and celebrated his birthday by being being the MVP for game two. The championship final featured the BRHL Optimist selects against a team from South London. The two teams took some time to feel each other out before Matt Caruana Caruana scored from Ryan Evans and Bryan Barchard late in the first to put Bow- manvillc up 1-0. The second period became an all- Bowntanvillc affair as the combination combination of Barchard, Evans and Caruana tallied two more to complete Matt's natural hat-trick. Garret Nemisz added a single and then assisted on Jason Hicks' goal to put the Optimist selects up 5-0 at the end of the second. Jason Hicks pocketed his second goal of the game early in the third period, period, with Ryan Evans getting his fourth and Bryan Barchard his third assist of the game.
