It's that time of year again when St. Stephen's is going through the fi- nal stages of .rehearsals for its annual - spring production. Students and staff ' have been working together through- v out the last two months to put togeth- . er another, play that is most worthy of •the St. Stephen's name. Over the past few years they have produced some 'very successful work in the drama - field, as undoubtedly anyone who has Isecn a St. Stephen's play will remem- • bcr. This year's play promises to be . their best work by far! They are doing doing a production of The Dining '.Room by A.R. Gurney. It is described described by one of their senior cast .members, Curtis Chomic, as "a mclo- _drama, tvyo thumbs up!" . The Dining Room was produced ;by the Bowmanville Drama Workshop Workshop about eight years ago and was a 'tremendous success. St. Stephen's 'has varied their production some- . what. The play was originally written .for six people and this is how it was 'originally performed by the Bow- jmanvillc Drama Workshop. Because ■pf the large number of talented men 'imd women who auditioned for the -spring play our production has expanded expanded the cast list to accommodate .26 young actors. Although some 'might think that the constant changing changing of characters would be confusing, 'one of St. Stephen's newest actors, 'Chris O'Donohue, feels that "the •continuous change of characters .throughout the play is what keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. 'Things move from one generation to •the next so quickly in the play that „you have to pay close attention. It's •what makes it so entertaining." - The Dining Room is essentially a play about family values. The whole thing takes place in a single dining 'room and each scene is about a different different family and how their value .system works or doesn't, as the case may be. Not every scene has a happy .ending! Throughout the play, you move through different time periods; 'from the late thirties to the present 'day. Regardless of the setting, the ■play deals with some very important .issues that arc a part of family life today. today. Rena Potts has offered her services services as our caretaker for the same price as we paid last year, and we hope the Neilsen children will take the job of cleaning up the yard and grass cutting the same as they did last year. Blanche is to call Rena and tell her we would like to put up the quilt and get started to sew on it - hopefully hopefully by the 13th. Gerry brought some drapes for the kitchen. They were accepted with thanks so now we'll have to tailor them to fit our windows - and per haps Val will sew them up again, before before getting them cleaned. A discussion followed about a night out and since only three of us present were interested in bowling, we decided to have our May meeting following an evening meal at Mar- wood Restaurant. May 10th and Betty Betty offered to make the arrangements. Next time we have it on the books to go to the New Dutch Oven. Then a scrambled word flower contest was conducted. How can any one's brain go blank so quick? Collection was received and we went to the kitchen to get our goodies and tea. Next month - the group is - Gladys Gladys Potts, June Trcwin and Doric Christensen. After our social time - we all thanked Val for her hospitality, and we'll look forward to. meeting with the ladies at the quilt and later our May meeting. /■ i Ï TAUHTOkID 1 • :r | / KAHN BARN Brock Road North, Pickering Exit 399,3 Miles North of 401 Early Advertising, Country Store Items, Toys, Dolls, Movie Posters, Tins, Records, Comics, Breweriana, Gum Cards, Magazines, Books, Paper, Etc.
