The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, April 28, 1993 13 Courtice Thespian Returns to Star In Durham Shoestring Performance Kiwanis '93 Music Festival Results by Laura J. Richards The goal of a theatrical career has taken a local woman to the Durham Shoestring Performers, to York University, University, to a theatre company of her own and then back again to the Shoestring Shoestring Performers. Mary, Ms Lowry's character, is a BLOCK PARENT "woman who has a great sense of humour" humour" and has strong tics to her family. family. It is that family that part of the play focuses on. In the play, she and her husband, Joe, are going through a rough time as they discover that their 21-year old son, Paul, has a drinking problem and their 19-year old daughter, Betty, is pregnant by her Boyfriend Zak. Upon examining their children's problems, the couple discovers that there are many issues to work on in their relationship. Things get crazy and stressful as each character tries to sort out the joys and sorrows of living in these modem times. With quick, witty dialogue, the play is funny, Ms Lowry said. However, it also has some language language that could be seen as offensive in it, so this play is for mature audiences, audiences, Ms Lowry said.
