"The average price of homes sold throughout the Durham Region was $143,335, only a fraction of one per cent lower than March's average price of $143,801. But, compared to April of 1992, the average price has dropped by more than five per cent ($151,979), says Christine Kendall, ODREB President. "We are seeing a more active market market for homes in the price range of $150,000 to $200,000 due to the spring" confidence that our community community is experiencing," adds Kendall. With over 2,500 listings on the market, homes sold in an average of 59 days for just under five per cent of their list price. Kendall says that "affordability is slowly on the rise again, along with consumer confidence. The Home Buyers' Plan (using RRSP funds) has been extended until March of 1994 and qualified first time home buyers can get a break with only a five per cent downpayment. The recent government government budget made no changes with regards to home ownership, so once again, we were not penalized." The ODREB works with all levels of governments through its Political Affairs Committee. The Committee recently presented a general membership membership meeting in April, and invited their community's Mayors, MP's and MPP's for the evening. All. of the Region's Municipalities were represented in a trade fair before before the meeting, which gave the ODREB members an opportunity to speak to Councillors and Mayors and gain information about our area.
