Discussions were held on the resolutions resolutions and amendments to the Rules of Procedure being brought forward at the Provincial Conference. The 47th Annual Conference is being held * May 28-30 at the Holiday Inn, Oshawa. There was a diverse group of resolutions resolutions on women's issues, with topics topics such as common-law property ownership, pay equity, female circumcision, circumcision, and sexual abuse of patients. patients. Club, members related their views and ideas and decided which resolutions the appointed delegates would support at the convention. Bowmanville B.P.W. Club hosted a Myers-Briggs Personal Development Development Seminar April 17th that was well attended and very enlightening for all the participants. The seminar showed participants how to better communicate with others and understand understand different personality types. The B.P.W. Club welcomes working working women from all walks of life to be potential members. Some of the activities you may find yourself involved involved in as a member of the club are: - attending programs to keep informed informed and involved in public affairs, affairs, legislation, education and employment employment practices, - sponsoring workshops, seminars and educational programs for advancement advancement in careers, leadership, and self-improvement. The club is a non-sectarian, nonprofit nonprofit and non-partisan organization which provides working women with support and works to achieve equality equality of opportunity and economic security security for all women. The next meeting of the club will be held on May 20th when a Durham Region Police Officer will be addressing addressing the club about women's safety issues. Excavation on the long-awaited multi-purpose facility is expected to begin next week. Harold Hammond, chairman of the congregational council, had the honor of breaking the first piece of ground at Sunday's noon-hour event. A number of local dignitaries including Mayor Diane Hamre and MPP Gord Mills joined the large gathering with best wishes and congratulations. Reverend Frank Lockhart jokingly invited all in attendance to take their turn with the shovel to help defray the cost of excavation. Erecting the addition is expected to cost approximately $575,000. A significant significant portion of the building fund has been raised already through the Board of Tmstccs and other sources. The province has promised $50,000 for installation of an elevator. Fund-raising will continue until the necessary amount is reached. The new addition will join directly onto the existing church building at the northeast comer of the lot at Division Division and Church Streets. It will occupy occupy well over 8,000 square feet, which is more than a third the size of the original structure. A small section of the next-door office and one-time manse will be tom down to accommodate the addition. addition. The main floor level of the addition addition will feature a central reception area with a 20-foot ceiling. It will be equally suited for formal dinners, concerts, concerts, or sports, according to Rev. Lockhart. Beneath the main level will be additional additional meeting space, washrooms, kitchenette, and storage areas. "We're limited now," Rev. Lockhart Lockhart said, "We can really only accommodate accommodate one event an evening. Once the addition is complete we can have as many as 5 or 6 events at once." Gordon Smeaton, of Toronto, the addition will fit in well with the existing church in scale and proportion. The flat roof design tics in with the eaves line of the existing roof. < The exterior will be brick. The main south entrance will be set back from Church Street and will feature a distinctive circular window above double doors. Other windows will be elongated, vertical and arched to reflect reflect the original style of the historic Trinity Church. The north portion of the lot behind the addition will be terraced with stone steps. Project co-ordinator Andy May will supervise construction. He has seen draft drawings dated 1926 regarding regarding proposals for an addition which was needed even back then. Mayor Hamre offered a sincere thank you to all who worked toward making the church addition a reality. It will be a great help in serving the residents of the area, she said. A completion date has not yet been established for the project and building building will proceed in stages, said Rev. Lockhart. "We will have accomplished a •great deal in a year," he said.
