On Saturday, Betty Mercer visited Olive Little at Newcastle. Philip and Robin, Aimee, and baby were with Clarence and Betty Mercer's. Also at this service the Sacrament of Baptism was observed observed when Stephen and Gloria La Micro offered their infant daughter Laura Lynne Eileen Lamiere for Baptism. Baptism. Mr. Ross Bcnns conducted the service with Clerk of Session Brian Gray assisting in the presentation of the Baptismal Certificate, with the congregation pledging their support as well. Little Laura took the whole event in stride with big brother Eddie a keen spectator. A number of close relatives and friends were in attendance for this special event, including the Grandparents Grandparents Eileen and Ray McCullough and Mrs. La Mierc. Mrs. Hazel Gray presided at the piano and Hally Hunan and David Moore acted as ushers. Following the service, the special guests and close friends gathered for refreshments at the residence of Stephen Stephen and Gloria. One of our local residents (not a "matador") was recently rushed to Lindsay's Ross Memorial Hospital following a run in with one of his bovines, bovines, in which he came out second best. Mr. Bruce Kerr was admitted to hospital when an irate cow who objected objected to his getting too close to her calf, bunted and tried to gore him with her horns, cracking some ribs and doing other injuries to his body. The good news is Bruce was able to return home on Saturday, May 8th. Another local resident, Mr. John McCabe (a son of Mrs. Gertie McCabe) of Lotus) was badly injured in a recent car accident and was rushed to the hospital suffering multiple multiple injuries as well. Pleased to relate that John also was able to return home after spending several days in that institution. Glad to report that Mr. Morley Wright was likewise permitted to return return home after spending several months in hospital following a stroke. Morlye is managing to manoeuvre manoeuvre around his residence with the aid of a wheel chair. Mr. Murray Malcolm is still confined confined to a Peterborough Hospital but hopes to return home in the not too distant future. All our Yelverton community is Newcastle Village Optimist Club member Reg Tressidcr was taking taking hamburgers and hot dogs straight off the barbeque on Saturday at noon hour during the club's Canada Day Fund Raiser at the M&M Meat Shop in Bowmanville. The money raised goes towards the Canada Canada Day celebration to be held by the club at Clarke High School on the night of Thursday, July 1, starting at 6:30.
