Spring Flower Show The annual "spring flower show" and plant sale of Orono Horticulture took place Thursday, May 13, in Main hall of Orono United Church. Good attendance and several new members signed up. Following opening welcome by President Shelley Etmanski and reading reading of spring poem, "O Canada" was sung with Doreen Lowery at piano. Following business period, Loma Atkins showed everyone her brand new plague, given to her from Town of Newcastle for her work as Volunteer. Volunteer. Loma then introduced our guest speaker, Mrs. Beryl Harris, Lakcfield and district director of District 4 of O.H.A. Mrs. Harris explained why she's wearing a hat, to battle against the damaging razes of sunshine, especially especially so this year! She was bom and raised in England and her grandmother grandmother was a gypsy, who practiced with herbs and plants for medicinal problems. problems. Our speaker certainly brought a wealth of knowledge and displays. Of course, some herbs arc annuals, and some may be replanted in spring. Car Wash Supports Exchange trip Some herbs can all "be used, even to the roots (cinnamon) ginger etc., and others only foliage. We were told to always bring in herbs in August and hang up to dry! Your herbs should be grown near your kitchen doors, as easy to obtain and of course will winter better if near warmth! She particularly stressed the health importance of many herbs, and onions and garlic especially especially good. (Another note "grow garlic near your rose garden). The Sacrament of Baptism was performed by Reverend Mervyn Russell (new minister of Kirby- Orono charge) and Christening Jenna Lea Dzierzanowski, daughter of Jim and Loma (nee Lowery) of Scottsdale Scottsdale Arizona, U.S.A., Kendra Mac Lowery, daughter of Carl and Karen Orono, Thomas Glen, son of Kevin and Sharon Lowery.
