Hall when over one hundred and twenty relatives, relatives, friends and neighbours called to wish Mrs. Edith Gordon "Happy Birthday" on her 82nd! Her grand children organized the happy event and the hall looked lovely in shades of mauve streamers and balloons! Prior to showing showing Marie showed us maps and points of special, interest! Norway, Sweden, Oslo, Stockholm, etc. Very scenic and lots of interesting photography, plus a very interesting commentary by Marie. Dorothy Barnett presented the guest with lovely bouquet of fresh flowers and voiced a thank you on behalf of all present. Marie Tamblyn presented the devotions based on story story of "Ruth" in the Bible. Ruth set such an example of Loyalty, Trust, Devotion and Love. '£/ ' r k;7 %#§ The 4th annual Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen Bike-a-thon and Rodeo was held on Sunday, May 30th at the Clarke High School grounds. Pictured above are just a few of the nearly 200 cyclists and roller- bladers who took part in the fun. Rodeo highlights included a bike safety inspection, tractor pull, and water dunking tank. Holding the Kinsmen flag at right are Norm Dawes, chairman of the bike-a-thon; and event sponsor, Stephen J. Sawyer, of Steve's Diesel. Agricultural Society Holds May Meeting By Ron Locke On May 17th the Board of Directors Directors of Durham Central Agricultural , Society met at the Orono Arena for ' their monthly meeting. President Tom Moffat chaired the meeting with 25 directors and visitors attending. Charlie Reid addressed the assembly assembly on behalf of the Reid Family. It has been 25 years since his father, Jack Reid, has passed away and Charlie explained that they have been sponsoring the "Jack Reid Memorial Trot" since his father's death 25 years ago. Charlie commented that they plan to make this the last year for tliis race at the fair. They have plans to make this Jack Reid Memorial Memorial Trot a special event, commemorating commemorating 25 years since Jack's passing. Many people have offered special 'gifts for the winning horse, driver 'and owner. Also, Charlie has offered additional prize money and asked the Agricultural Society to do the same. ( ,Many of the top Ontario drivers arc 'being invited to compete in this spe- 'L I!, cial event. An array of racing memor- 'I bilia is also being put together for display at the 1993 Fair. Mr. Reid -«commented, "we're going to make it • as good as we can." Other related issues were discussed, discussed, "Horsin" Around" had already already been chosen as the theme for 1 the 1993 fair, so this would go well ; with Charlie's proposal, also a design hasn't been chosen for the buttons, this could reflect the special event proposed by Mr. Reid. The banquet committee reported that the Annual Banquet had been well attended and was a financial success. The ribbon committee made a recommendation recommendation to the board concerning concerning the purchase of ribbons for the 1993 fair, it was accepted with one amendment. Cheryl Moulton reported for the fair Queen Committee. The committee committee had met recently and many of the sponsors arc in place, a theme is still to be chosen and the pageant will be known in the future as "The Ambassador Ambassador of The Fair Pageant." Some discussion was centered around the safety of the track crossing crossing on the North side of the Grandstand Grandstand for the Sunday races. It was decided decided to make an alternate crossing on Sunday afternoon. There arc still openings for chairpersons chairpersons in Domestic Sciences and Horse Race Committees. A teen dance is being considered for Saturday night but volunteers will be required to organize and administer administer the event. The next fair board meeting will be on June 21st. in the Agricultural Building at the Fair-grounds in Orono. Orono. Newtonville W.l. Report The Newtonville Women's Institute Institute met at the home of Jean O'Neill on Wednesday May 19th at 1:30 p.m. There were 13 members present. The president opened the meeting with a poem "Tulips", Institute Ode, The Mary Stewart Collect. The secretary secretary read her report. Jean O'Neill and Bemeice .Milligan .Milligan to go to Hampton to "Victorian Style". The W.l. is to make 6 dozen cookies cookies for Orono Fair. Olive Henderson and Jean O'Neill to help at Fair. Orono Fair was discussed and we are entering a display called "Things my Grandmother taught me". Silent Auction at next meeting in June.
