Refreshments were served following following the service. 31 Lions and 2 guests were present for the May 26th dinner meeting of the Newcastle Lions Club. The United Church Women served an excellent dinner as usual. President Mike Carter chaired the meeting, and after dinner asked Lion Dave Gibson to introduce the Guest speaker. Jim Cry derm an is a member of the 4 Bowmanvillc Lions Club and teaches Special Education at Courtice Secondary Secondary School. In 1992 for their part in the International Olympic Torch Bearers Program, Canada decided to send members of the Special Olympic Olympic Organization. As a Special Olympic Olympic Volunteer with many credits, Jim was chosen to chaperon, one of the torch bearers. Jim has been a volunteer coach and co-ordinator for the Special Olympic Organization for many years, a position which was evident, is close to his heart. With videos, Jim showed the Lions how hard these mentally disabled athletes work to earn medals and recognition for their country. He also shared the honor with the Lions of being able to go to Spain and participate in the torch run. After a superb presentation, Jim* was thanked by Lion Howard Quin-f ncy and presented with a momento pDj- his visit to the Newcastle Lions. June 13th - Enfield United Church 116th anniversary will be held at 2 p.m. Ribbon Cutting Opens New Facility in Newcastle A special new room was recently opened at the Newcastle Village Heath Care Centre by the President of the Seniors' Association, Archie Archie Cameron; Activities Assistant, Diane Alldread; and Durham MP Ross Stevenson. The Drop-in-Centre provides a place for centre residents residents to bake for themselves, since it contains a refrigerator and stove and plenty of cookware and bakeware. Residents can also use thé room to have a cup of coffee and a snitek or to entertain guests in a more home-like atmosphere. The room was re-allocated to the Seniors' Seniors' Association through the New Horizons Program which paid for the refrigerator and stove, a VCR and television, the decorating of the room and items like a chesterfield and chairs, a wooden kitchen table and chairs and craft supplies. Patterns,..focusing on both the constant and variable patterns all around us, in the spider's web, in the clouds above, even in the architecture of our buildings.
