Dan, a world-renowned filmmaker filmmaker and sound recordist, has made 21 albums of nature sounds, nine of them combined with music, since 1981. Since he began, he has sold more than a million copies of his Solitudes series and other nature sound albums - many of which were recorded in Ontario's provincial parks. Now Gibson is issuing Algonquin Suite, which will include nature sounds recorded entirely in his favourite provincial provincial park, Algonquin, to celebrate celebrate the Provincial Parks Centennial Centennial in 1993. "I've wanted to do this for a long time and what better excuse could I have than the centennial?" centennial?" says Dan, who has had a cottage in the Algonquin area since 1946. "I've worn out a lot of shoe leather and paddled a lot of water in the park. I never stop recording when I'm there." Gibson was already an awardwinning awardwinning filmmaker when he began recording nature sounds on his visits to provincial parks. "In the '50s and '60s,, nature sounds simply weren't available as recordings," says Dan. He has been using leading-edge technology technology ever since, and was one of the first sound recordists to use digital technology. The albums, originally billed as "environmental" sound albums, albums, began to sell well in the early 1980s - as a means to reduce reduce stress. They continue to be used for this purpose and are even used in operating rooms. Gibson has expanded the concept concept to include videos, and has so far made three. He is donating 1,000 copies of Algonquin Suite to the Friends of Algonquin Algonquin Park gift store. Proceeds from sales will be used to create new exhibits for the park's visitor visitor centre, which officially opens during the centennial year. The Friends of Algonquin Park is a charitable organization that raises money for projects to enhance the park's interpretive and educational programs. Gibson's Algonquin Suite contains contains music specially composed by.IIennie Bekker, who has collaborated collaborated with Gibson on other albums. "It starts off in an early morning morning setting with the sound of canoe paddle strokes and the last calls of a wolf returning to the pack from the night hunt," says Dan. "You can hear loons, a sparrow, a thrush. It's so much like my own experiences in the park. "This is the way I've experienced experienced Algonquin park, how I've enjoyed it. I hope people will enjoy it through the album." Please Mail in Cheque or Money Order Or Use Your VISA or MasterCard VISA/MasterCard No. Expiry Date All Advertisements include G.S.T.
