After making my purchases I received a rude awakening. The clerk at the other other till glanced over at my son. "LOOK AT THOSE EARS?" then she laughed. I was flabbergasted. The look on my face must have told it all. Then she continued, "My cousin had his cars taped to his head because they were so big. Wc used to call him..." Her customer then jumped in and said, "Dumbo?" The clerk said "No. his was a family trait just like my aunt." Then they went on with her purchases. 1 was in shock! My heart sank to my feet as my son stood there listening. As we got to the car, I could see my son holding back the tears. It's hard to accept it but I can expect expect the teasing from other children, but I CAN NOT understand it from adults. How can wc expect our children children to grow up with the sclf- confidcnce and self-esteem that every individual needs? It's people like her that now make me feel that I'm obligated obligated to put my son, through surgery on his cars so that lie can look like a "normal" child in her society. To her it might have been casual conversation, to my 3 years old son and myself it is an issue I was hoping not to deal with until he at least started started school. What is this world coming to when adults feel the need to tease children to their faces?
