A day time Bible Study group will be starting in Orono at 10:00 a.m. on Thursdays, beginning beginning October 7th. A very special guest minister will be our Anniversary preacher this year. The Reverend Clifford Elliott is well known through his columns in the Observer and the Toronto Star. He has had a very notable ministerial career and he's been senior minister at some of the largest and prominent churches in our denomination. The Elders arc to be congratulated in asking asking him and in securing his services. It promises to be an inspirational event. Envelopes will also be made available for Anniversary Sunday. I know all the fundraising seems to come at once. However be as generous generous as you can. This year we arc remembering remembering all our non-resident members and encouraging them to indicate indicate to us that belonging to Orono United Church is still important to them. If non-resident members would like to send a note of greetings with your cheque we would be delighted to hear from you and pass these messages messages on to the congregation. Lastly, I want to let you know there has been a group looking into trying to suggest a youth programme for the church. We have become quite interested in a programme called 'Logos'or 'Youth Club'. It is a mid-week programme with four elements; bible study, music, eating, recreation. We are focusing on the 12-15 year age group. We're going to visit an established group and sec how it works in practice. We want to do our research thoroughly and be ready to encourage the entire congregation congregation to support whatever we finally propose. Thanksgiving appeal envelopes will be distributed in the bulletins on Sundays, October 3rd (World Communion Communion Sunday) and October 10th. Of all the gifts we have received, our Saviour, Jesus Christ and our faith in him, are the most important. That's, why especially on Thanksgiving it is good and right to make a special gift to support the work of the church. Here comes a change! The Fall Supper which for years has been on a Wednesday night is going to be on a Saturday this year. The date is Satur-i day, October-23rd and the times of the sittings are 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. We're experimenting. Will we have the same or more helpers and ticket takers? The Stewards arc,, in the main, sure we will. Let's prove them right! Crystal Pages Lectures On September 21, Dr. John Haw- rylak discussed the topic 'Taking responsibility responsibility for our own health care', to a group of very interested and concerned concerned people. With reference to the fact that the OMA may decide to severely severely curtail the treatments which will be covered by OHIP, we stand in need of re-leaming some of the age-old remedies which have been lying lying dormant, and coming to a new understanding of remedies of the naturopathic naturopathic and homeopathic nature which have been successful for hundreds hundreds of years in Europe and Asia. For example, we were given a very successful recipe for sore throat using honey and garlic, a natural antiseptic.
