Richards The supremacy of God is the bottom bottom line for a local man running for the Christian Heritage Party (CHP) in the Durham Riding. Dairy farmer Durk Bruinsma has been with the CHP since 1987, one year after the party began. He believes in the CHP because it is built on "the principles based on the supremacy of God -- not what's good for me is good for everyone else," he told The Statesman on Friday Friday afternoon. Bruinsma doesn't believe that the Canadian Charter of Rights upholds traditional moral values. The party stand is that it would demand a complete repeal of the charter. That is because the CHP believes that "family is central and the basis , „ . _ . .. -, , ^ .. of society," Bruinsma stated. Cat Comes Back After Two Months by Lorraine Manfredo Two young boys whose cat disappeared disappeared over the summer have her back at home again because they never gave up looking. Kyle and David Riggs were devastated devastated when their fluffy grey cat went missing two days after they moved into their brand new home on Bonny- castlc Drive in the Aspen Springs subdivision subdivision in west Bowmanville. The family had owned two-and-a half-year-old Mikcy since she was a kitten. Apparently, keeping her indoors at the new place for two days and nights just wasn't enough to get her used to her new home. "I figured two days was enough," says mother Darlene Riggs. "I finally had to let her out. She kept going to the door. It was sad." When she opened the door Mikcy scooted out and disappeared. Kyle, age 8, cried when his cat didn't come home. He left food and water on the door step for weeks. His older brother David, age 11, was just as upset. Weeks went by and hope slowly faded in the adults. In an effort to comfort the boys, they brought home a fluffy grey kitten with amber eyes that looked just like Mikcy. Although Kyle and David welcomed welcomed the friendly little version of their old pal, they kept searching for Mikcy. Darlene was just as anxious to have her home again. Even though Mikcy had clawed holes in three of her waterbeds, she still missed the cat that managed to cheer up her kids whenever they were troubled. Darlene and her boys continued to comb the neighborhood, calling Mi- key's name. They visited local animal shelters. They even searched around their old home in Oshawa. Neighbors with dogs promised to keep their eyes peeled on their evening evening walks, but to no avail. It was starting to seem hopeless Until one morning last week. On his way to school, David thought he spotted a familiar fluffy grey shape as his bus drove past Pen- found Avc. He and a friend were pretty pretty sure it was Mikcy sitting on someone's someone's front step. That same evening, David asked his mother to talk to the owner of the house on Pcnfound. They left a description and their phone number and asked that she call if she happened to sec Mikey. The phone rang the next day. Sure enough, the Riggs were reunited reunited with Mikcy. Her fur was a little dirtier and more matted than when she vanished back in July, but she seemed healthy.' "The woman said Mikey just came running when she called her name. She hadn't heard it jp months," Darlene Darlene said. Now she is determined to keep her wandering pet indoors for two entire weeks just as an animal expert recommended. recommended. With that in mind, he also stated that since the party is "a compassionate compassionate party," he sees the free trade, agreement as helping out economies that need help. As he looks at it, it won't hurt Canadians to lower their standard of living a bit in order to help the Mexicans Mexicans increase theirs.
