Friends and family enjoyed enjoyed this celebration. On Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell, daughter Judy of Bowmanville and daughter Beth Marklc of Scarborough drove to Sault Stc Marie. On Thursday they enjoyed the Agawa Canyon train ride. The coloured trees with specks of snow were a beautiful sight. The family returned home Friday. Last Monday evening Jack and Hazel Crago called on former neighbours neighbours Leonard and Lisa Alldrcad and sons Brandon and Alexander, Orono. Saturday morning caller at the Jack Crago's home was niece Donna Rudgc of Caledon East. Birthday greetings to Earl Foster and Mary Foster. Congratulations to Kathleen and Stanley Powell on their October wedding wedding anniversary. Sympathy is extended to relatives and friends of Doug Smith, who passed away on Saturday, September 25th. On Friday evening, October 1st, 1993, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Andrews Andrews (nee Ruth Merrill) celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary at Newcastle Community Hall. They were supported by their son, Fred and his wife Melinda, daughter Marie and her husband Glenn Wood, and grandchildren grandchildren Jancllc and Daniel Andrews, Scott and Gerrit Wood. A host of relatives relatives and friends enjoyed the evening evening of dancing. Before lunch was served by Shiloh UCW, Ruth and Norman addressed the crowd, thanking-all thanking-all for attending. We extend congratulations congratulations to Ruth and Norman, whose actual wedding date was October October 10,1953. The Jack Cragos were feted well on the weekend. Since Hazel had an October 1st birthday, the Powell family family dined out on Friday and the Crago family on Sunday. Thank you to friends and relatives for cards and gifts. One really does appreciate the kind acts. Mrs. Kathleen Kimball, Mr. and Mrs. Vance Cooper attended Shiloh United Church anniversary on Sunday. Sunday. Mrs. Mabel Wade is a patient in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville. On Friday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade accompanied daughter- in-law Marg of Port Hope to Ashbum where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Greg Wade and Derek. Saturday dinner guests of Mrs. Elizabeth Skclding were Jack and Nan Skclding, Port Perry and Mr. Raymond Chapman. Last Monday Mrs. Maxine Fel- gate and daughter Colleen, Claremont, Claremont, spent the day with her mother, Mrs. Gladys Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wood, Oshawa, were Sunday evening visitors. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Robin Alldrcd were Doug, Lois and Barry Rowe, Annette Doug and Jenna Jenna Nugent and Donna Bannister, Bowmanville. The Newcastle Lioness Club had its first fall meeting last Monday. President Jean Rickard gave a resume of the Lions Forum at Winston Salem, Salem, North Carolina. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gatrod hosted Thanksgiving for their family. Attending were Raye Fried- lander, Sandra and Tom Schmahl and children, Barry and Cindy Norton and family. The Newcastle Horticultural Society Society holds a workshop on Tuesday evening, October 19. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Murray and Colleen, Frankford, spent the weekend weekend with Mr. Arthur Bedwin and Fred, Lake Shore. St. George's Anglican Church On October 3, at eleven o'clock, the Reverend Robert Hartley preached a thoughtful sermon based on the Epistle and Gospel for the day. Holy Communion was celebrated at eight and eleven. At eleven, special special prayers, both spoken and silent, were offered for the seriously sick. The flowers at the Altar were in memory of Terry De Guerre given by his loved ones. This evening the ACW is holding a Hors D'oeuvres Night at 7:30 in the Parish Hall. Samples and recipes arc to be shared. On Friday there will be a card party in the Parish Hall. On Saturday donations and help for decorating the Church for Thanksgiving will be welcome. On Sunday, in the absence of Mr. Hartley, Hartley, a priest from Cobourg will celebrate celebrate Holy Communion at eight and Lay Reader Oakley Peters will lead the Service of Morning Prayer. United Church On Sunday, October 3rd, 1993, Holy Communion was celebrated at Newcastle United Church.
