This is a very special year for the Block Parent program, because because we are celebrating our 25 th Anniversary. This is why the theme for Block Parent Week is celebrating our past, as well as our future. Prom its humble beginnings in London, Ontario in 1968, to forming a National Block Parent Committee and Executive in 1983, and then becoming becoming incorporated in 1986, the Block Parent Program has truly grown. There are now over 325,000 Block Parent Homes across Canada which estimates, into 750,000 Block Parents keeping the communities safe for all citizens. In the beginning, the Block Parent Program was initially set up to protect protect the children, but a lot has changed since 1968, and the Block Parent Program has changed with the times. Many Provinces have begun Seniors Programs which allow our older adults to use the Block Parent home in times of distress. Teen Programs Programs have also been set up in which teenagers help run the Block Parent Program in the various communities. Some Provinces have been fortunate enough to set up offices, and hire an Executive Director. There will be a flag-raising ceremony ceremony at the Town Hall on Monday, October 25th and on Saturday the 30th you are invited to bring your children to the Bowmanville Mall. Here from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Block Parents will have an information information display and face painting for the young at heart. The many volunteers in our community community who give their time for this worthy program need your support. If you are already a Block Parent, let us take this opportunity to thank you. If you are not a Block Parent, what better better time to become one than Block Parent Week..
