Thoraval Leads Major Novices My Apothecary Defeats Newcastle for Soccer Title The Major Novice Toros started Thanksgiving weekend with a hard- fought 5-3 win over Pickering. Zach Thoraval led the way with a pair of goals, including one on a penalty penalty shot. Singles went, to Mark Lemieux, Lemieux, Garrett McKnight and Jamie Bryant. Assists went to Steven Hatfield, Hatfield, Craig Barraball, Trevor Baker and Brett McKee. On Saturday, October 9, the Toros exploded for 15 markers, blanking the Barrie Flyers 15-0. Garrett McKnight and Brett McKee had three goals each, while Matt Gross, Craig Barraball, Barraball, Trevor Baker and Zach Thoraval had two apiece. Adam Bowen tallied once. On Monday, October 11, Markham handed the boys their first loss of the season, 4-2. Garrett McKnight, and Brett McKee from Trevor Baker handled handled the scoring in this one. After a close 3-2 win over Courtice #3 in the semi-finals, they went on to another close game, defeating Newcastle 5-3. The BRHL Hooper's Trophy team opened their season on Saturday, October October 16, against NovicO Hardware in the first game of the Peewee division. Hooper's came out fast in the first as Steve LaFlammè set up Antonio Stravato for the first Hooper's goal. Hooper's took a two-goal lead from a. nice individual effort by Ian Cuthbert- son. Hooper's , then went ahead by three when Andrew Laton fed the puck to Steve Bosgraaf who made no mistake and scored. Novico Hardware lit up their side of the scoreboard late in the second period and once again in the third to make the final score Hooper's 3, Novico Novico 2. There was a good effort by each player and our two goalies, Dao and Luxton.
