Past- presidents Joe Pinto, Bob Stevens, and current president Joe Sweet shared some ideas about community service that were discussed at the convention. by Lorraine Manfredo Rotary Club members who attended attended the district conference in Huntsville Huntsville this month report that it was one of the most successful to date. They had glowing praise for the entertainment, the food and the luxurious surroundings at the Deerhurst Lodge where the conference conference was held. Garnet Rickard introduced his three colleagues after club business on Thursday, saying: "It's very important important for our members to find out more about Rotary, particularly the newest members who might have questions." Bob Stevens, who is a 43-year member with the local club, had rave reviews about the Deerhurst Lodge. The facility boasts a sports complex complex with indoor tennis courts, and a Las Vegas-style auditorium with skylights skylights that can be "turned off' for movies movies or slide presentations. Guests may also use the golf course and enjoy enjoy the beautiful grounds. During the three-day convention, participating Rotarians were treated to entertainment provided by Rotary clubs. "The money gets right to wherever it's needed through Rotary." Past-president. Joe Pinto attended a seminar entitled, "Save Planet Earth." The challenge for Rotary is to have a change in philosophy," he said. Such a challenge will take the community interest into consideration. Improving the local environment can be achieved through joint ventures between other service clubs and schools. Dr. Pinto said that Rotary clubs could consider bringing water-saving programs into the community by volunteering volunteering to install economical shower shower heads and toilet dams in seniors' apartments. The Bowmanville Rotary Club, in co-operation with area schools, has planted over 68,000 seedlings in the community over the past three vears. The club has planted more deciduous deciduous trees lately, as they are better oxygen oxygen producers. President Joe Sweet commented on the seminars he attended on preventing preventing drug and alcohol abuse. Solina Heritage Keepers Hold ! Fifth Meeting . The fifth meeting of the Solina . Digging Deeper Heritage Keepers was held at Solina Hall on October 11. We opened the meeting with the 4-H Pledge followed by the roll call. We all told how our family celebrates a special day in our home. Carolyn read the minutes. Mrs. Bowman showed us her early early Canadian stamp collection. Mrs. Dair told us how she makes her own pot pourri from rose petals. She also told us how to dry various herbs. We then moved into the kitchen where we saw demonstrations on how to make Bannock by Sandi Ashton, Ashton, Johnny Cake by Elizabeth Mill- son, Dutch Truffles by Tim Dair, Beef Chop Sucy by Carolyn Barkcy, Apple Cake by Sabasticn Girault. The Junior members will be setting setting up an exhibit for our Achievement Achievement Program so they had a small meeting about what should be on the display. We all enjoyed the food that everyone had prepared. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. and the cooking crew cleaned up the dishes before going home.
